Care to give an example?
MB Quarts quarts-600 front/back
Alpine Amp-~400
12" Alpine Type R ~200
Sub Box-Freebie, will build myself
1200 buck for the system. Note, these prices are taken from Crutchfield and I can find the items above much cheaper if I shopped around.
No, that doesn't work. What about the rest of speakers? And the 6 CD changer? And building the box? No, you said that you could BUY a better system for the same price.
How does it not work, it adds up to 1200 and includes everything. That system is using MB quarts which are real expensive, you can substitute it for something cheaper. In fact that is a pretty high end system. Everything I listened can be bought, you can BUY a sub box real cheap also, but I would want a custom one. The aftermarket will be better, maybe you just cannot hear it. Do you think that penny pinching Ford is going to give you top of the line speakers, I don't think so.

To set the record straight...
The Shaker 500 has ONLY 6 speakers.
The Shaker 1000 has 10 (including the 2 subs in the trunk)
Just look at the brochure or the specs at forddirect.com

I think you are right. I just picked up a brochure from the dealership and it says the shaker 500 has eight speakers. But online Ford lists is as having 6.

i disagree. you can spend a fortune on aftermarket systems, but a similarly priced aftermarket system (IMHO) will sound similar. So I am not going to waste time/money and tear apart my brand new car. I am getting the Shaker 1000!

I personally don't think the 1000 is worth the extra money. I would rather spend the money on aftermarket equipment. A good aftermarket system will blow away the Shaker 1000 and cost roughly the same if you install it yourself.

Actually I do. I had a system in my Toyota 4Runner that cost $3500, and I have had many friends with very nice systems. Of course you can get a better system, but for $1200 if it is going to be better it will only be marginally better, and to me it's not worth tearing apart my new car.
Look at it like this, 8 speakers, 2 subs, head unit and amps, you're gonna only spend 1200 aftermarket on these?

You obviously don't know much about car audio. I like to modify my car, so I can see if you don't stay stock. If you do, you can build a much cleaner system for the 1200 dollars you pay for the Shaker 1000.

I disagree, the number of speakers doesnt really matter. Honestly what are you building the system for, clarity, loudness, or rattling the trunk? Again, if you think Ford put real high quality speakers, subs, amps in the Shaker 1000 thats great. But remember this is the company that saved money and didnt go with an IRS, 6 speed manual, etc. I have a Bose system in my car with a sub and it stinks. The only good system that I have heard in a stock car is the Mark Levinson in high end Lexus vehicles, but look at the price of it.

The more speakers the better. Even at a normal volume, the more speakers you have the better sound you are going to get because it is more "rich". Why do you think home theather systems have gone from 3.1 to 5.1 to 7.1 and even some 9.1s now?
And btw, BOSE makes overpriced garbage ... paper cones? Are you kidding me? They are the Sony TVs of the audio world.

BTW...the Blose system in my car is junk, I agree. Anyone see pics of the Shaker 500/1000 cones?

Don't forget RCA cables, speaker wire, cap, power, etc...that can add up quickly...nearly $300-400 if you get good ones.
I know the system I am dropping in is closer to $3k than $1200. Aftermarket ads up quickly.

Regardless of the space, you are still getting a richer sound from more speakers. I think 8 is better than 4 in every circumstance (excluding the 2 in the trunk).

I have the Shaker 500. It sounds better than any OEM stereo I have heard. I would liked to have gotten the 1000, but none of the GT's I had to choose from had one. I did however replace the 2 rear speakers yesterday with 2 - 5x7 Polk DB570's coaxials, and it has improved the sound a great deal.....more bass from the rear now.

it can't cost ford more than $100 over the price of the base system? Are you serious? Two subwoofers, 2 other speakers, an Amp, and supposedly all the speakers are better quality... and you think it's only $100? Right!

Was that an audiophile brochure? or the regular one? The audiophile brochure sounds better as you turn the pages, they use Norwegian Wood pulp. :-)
This driving me crazy. I have a brochure that says the Shaker 500 comes with 8 speakers. But then ford direct says it comes with 6 speakers. I have a feeling that one of the mids has a dome mounted tweeter. That may be what is messing everything up.
I drove a V6 today with the 500. I only saw/heard two speakers per side. It sounded alright, but I can't wait to rip them out.

Ok, guys the brochure says 8 speakers for the 500 as does autos.yahoo.com. The Ford web site & the dealer order guidesays 6. Then again the Ford web site also says that my Mach 460 has 8 speakers. Anyone wanna tell me where they are because I only see 6. Unless the other 2 are under/in/whaterver the seat(s) because of that whatever setting. Anyone know anything about this?
I guess we won't know till someone gets their's & starts ripping the system out for a custom. Then maybe they'll share with the rest of the forum & this discussion will end. (Not likely I know but there is always hope). Cheers mates. Happy trails.

You know what cracks me up, this thread has had more than one person who has seen them, a person who owns one, and you're still asking the same question.
It's been answered in this thread. The 500 has eight speakers, the 1000 has 10.
The doors have 6 speakers total. Each door contains an 8" subwoofer, a 5.25" mid-driver, and a 1" tweeter.
The rear deck has 2 6x9" speakers.
The 1000 adds 2 10" subwoofers in the trunk.

No SixtySix you're the one who's crazy. You & well evryone else. At least that's my view. See, I think everyone is crazy & no one is normal. But that's another story.
Maybe I wasn't clear. I was asking about with the Mach 460. It say's I have 8 speakers, I only see 6. My question is where are the other 2? Or are they in/under the seat because of the all seats option?

I don't recommend the shaker 1000. for the money you can get a better system. i have the 1000 and if i had to do it over, i'd go that route and not order the shaker.

One 12 in the trunk is better than 2 10's. My 89 stang was modified as follows front speakers replaced whit component Cliff designs i.e. a 6 1/2 in the door and a 1" tweeter in the mirror corner. The door was filled with sound deadner. The speakers were angled for great imaging i.e. the music sounded like it was coming from a stage in front of the car. The rear fill was disconnected never liked the sound of rear fill. And one 12" sub and box was mounted in the hatch. Sony head unit and two amps one for the front one for the sub. They where MTX I think my second stang had MTX can't remmember on the first. That sound system had GREAT imaging and sound quality. Audiophile is not a standard there is not governing authority or licensing organization. THX is a standard Dolby is a standard. Words have meanings.
