PART FELL OFF MY GT

Yes, the hydrocarbon trap should also be on your V6 model as well, right behind your air filter. It's part of the new emissions equipment and is supposed to keep bad gases from leaking into the atmosphere between when you turn your car off and turn it back on again. Taking it off is supposed to gain you 4-7hp, someone dynoed with and without it.

How do you get it off? I took off the air hose to see if I could pull the darn thing out, but there is a lip that is holding me up

I doubt you'll damage the engine.
If you put it back when it gets serviced, how is it going to void the warranty?

If you pry this thing out with a screwdriver and needle nose pliers, it will inevitably leave marks on the lip and the HC filter, evidence that it has been tampered with.
Could the dealer then void the warranty for the owner messing with this part, seeing evidence that it has been removed and replaced?

wrap your pliars in a cloth or old t-shirt -- do the same w/ the scredriver. no marks. dealer or mechanic would never have a clue. B)

It's physically impossible for it to fall off, given the way it is installed.
Lucky Lou has a good (sneaky) suggestion above....
Anyone else have any opinions on possible engine damage? It's in there for a reason, but beyond its intended purpose, what other design aspects of the engine take this part into account?
Where are our techno-wizards (i.e. gear heads) ??

Just play dumb and say that you've never seen it before... a missing piece could be bad quality control at the factory or the car was just built on a Monday/Friday by a sauced Ford employee.

K&N has a filter for us now? Got a part number?
I haven't found it on their web page...
