Painted or not Painted. What do you think?

Im planning on purchasing one of those CDC ducktail spoilers(I think their called).

I know some sites offer the pre-painted option. Are the pre-painted spoilers(and w/e is available with the option) coming back satisfactory? Or is it better to get the unpainted style and have my dealer(or local body shop) match the color themselves?

I have a Redfire mustang. Also, I was doing a search to see how many poeple actually bother drilling the duck spoiler in. Or are most of you just using the tape?

I have the Roush Spoiler so I had to drill and use Tape but to answer your question -- if you really want it to match then have it color match as your stang has more then likely faded slightly from weather... if you get it painted then you risk it being a shade lighter as it

Its never going to be a perfect match up against the trunk. Painting plastic vs metal comes out different looking in certain light.
With the crap job these shippers do, I would have it shipped unpainted to avoid the risk of damage in shipping.

We put them on our inventory Mustangs pre-painted regularly. They look perfect and will save you a lot of hastle. I put a SS ducktail pre-painted on my father's white car, it looked fine too. Heck, the bumpers on modern cars rarely match the body from the factory perfectly, I think most of the pre-painted aftermarket parts I have seen match better.

Ship unpainted. UPS messed up my bumper big time. They had to pay for it. I had to wait it out at the body shop.

I got my CDC ducktail pre-painted and it arrived without issue. The folks at CDC are first rate so if you had any issues, they are going to take care of you.

I had mine bolted and taped on, I don't want to risk it coming off. Figured I'd never want to remove it anyways. Even if you tape it on, if your car sits outside a lot the paint color is going to be mismatched if you removed it due to paint fade in the sun.

Why waste time and money getting it painted? It's insured if it gets messed up.

Yeah I guess thats true. I was originally going to go with the pre-painted it just seemed like less hassle.

Time to start saving

Now my mustang didn't come with the spoiler delete, so the car will eventually need to stop by the body shop. Any idea what it cost to hvae the holes covered? I know my area willl be diff then yours. But what we're some of your estimates?

I would definitely have it shipped painted. Most companies do their best to make sure it arrives in good condition. For sure it's a lot easier than running around to paint shops with it.

Go with pre-painted...and if doesn't match...send it back for another one. If that fails, then go un-painted and look for a reputable shop.

I heard that the pre-painted equipment comes with cheap paint on it. And that it wont age as well as the rest of the car and in sunlight it wont look the same.

Any thoughts?
