PAID OFF!!
to some this may not be important, but for me, i can officially say that my 2006 is paid off! 14 months early~!
now to the saving up for a down payment on either a 2012 or 2013 as long as the 13's do not change significantly.
and yes i will be keeping the 2006. my 2003 might be in jepardy of being sold/traded for the new beast.

Congradulations! Thats wonderful. Now save, save, and save, and put a really large down payment on your next car or pay cash. I paid off mine in 9 months. Saving for a '14 model.

That's a nice feeling, eh??
2 of our 3 cars are paid off (including the Mustang) and my DD will be paid off next month. Now the plan is save and pay cash for the next car... no more car payments is my new motto

Congrats- thats a great feeling aint it
Ive got a couple years yet before I can say that again- picked up our 09 just after getting the 06 clear...bad timing as everything fell apart just after, never minded the payment on the 06- first car I can say that of, definitely will not be shopping whenever the 9 is clear- time for a car payment break, maybe a permanent one...
car prices/costs/taxes are climbing/incomes are not...not a good long term situation. if Ford can get 40 for a mustang GT now, hey thats great- but I seriously doubt the volume will ever be like it was when they were under 30 and most folks were still working. The new GT is a great car, but everyones got their pain threshold, afraid I'm too cheep.
hate to say, I think the best 'deal' on a plain old transportation American car right now is that eco-cruze at 18k/mostly American/42mpg...a few years ago the base Mustang was like 18, base GTs were going mid 20s...now gt base is 30, no end in sight...I'm afraid when the 9 is paid off it likely will be my last new car
I'd love to see average new car price today as a percentage of average income, and the same numbers from the 60s/70's...I'd have to guess a 1970 average car might have been about 1/4~1/3 average wages, bet now its over 1/2, maybe way over...

hey ford4v, i hear ya. i dont like the prices either but in order for me to get either a 12 or 13 5.0 i will need to find some serious cashflow, or trade the 03 in (which i would do but would still like to have that one to cruise around in). worst part is we are ourselfs to blame for the prices. when i started buying cars 20 yrs ago, you could haggle and deal for a car and get major discounts off the car even though the price wasnt high. most customers now a days will go in and point the finger and say "i want that one" and do not even care what the price is. so car companies got smart and said we will raise the prices and no one notices...yes we do but the majority just throws the money out and thats it. sorry to say, but it seems reality. my dad just bought a new ranger and the GM/owner of the dealership got involved, he told us that customers ever get to the point that we were at where the GM needed involvment to make the deal. sad state. unless we change and get everyone else to change, well never afford another mustang or car for that.

I think it has more to do with the mindset people have now compared to what they did 20-30 yrs ago. This is the age of instant gratification, and many people have lost financial and personal responsibility. They don't even pay attention to how much the total cost of something is in the long run, they are only concerned if they can afford the monthly payment. People are living so far beyond their means, that one little hiccup in monthly income can put them out on the street.
Big banks and Wall Street aren't the only ones to blame for the shape our economy is in, people need to look in the mirror.
/rant.
Sorry.

Needs to be more Astony
I think it has to do with the amount of stuff that is packed into cars just due to government regulations and people being picky.
If a 60's car had to pass the same crash and emission standards and run drive and do what modern cars do they would have cost way more then a persons yearly income.

I paid off mine 2 yrs early. It still feels good not to make that payment. Just getting rid of all my other credit cards and then will get something new. I still don't know what I want. I keep looking at getting a Lime Green SRT Challenger, a diesel VW Jetta or Golf, or a new GT. UGGHHH.....
