Ordered my Windveil Blue GT Deluxe yesterday / Tuesday 11/23/04, as follows:
Cloth sport bucket seats in dark charcoal; auto transmission; Shaker 500 audio; active anti-theft system; IUP; spoiler delete; wheel locking kit; front seat side airbags; standard GT 17" premium painted cast aluminum wheels. Priority code 10.

[ Planning to add dealer accessories at delivery such as chrome plated stainless steel exhaust tips; Pony (with red, white & blue stripes) chrome center ring caps to replace the Ford blue oval center cap--not enough Mustang logos on this car; maybe the Electrochromic rearview mirror with built in compass and temperature display. Need a price on the mirror to decide, but the first 2 are a lock. ]

Here's the kicker: My salesman, who is experienced, has been very knowledgable and on top of everything, is highly optimistic that the car will go to the assembly line as early as next week and could be delivered by Christmas (that's 2004).

This dealership's allocation of Mustangs is 37 per calendar quarter, plus another 18 that Ford has already offered them and they have accepted.

Quoting Kevinb the other day, "...if you order an automatic tranny with spoiler delete, you go right to the head of the line."

Personally, I think I'll be lucky to have it by Mardi Gras Day (2/8/04).

Is my salesman crazy? Or is Kevinb on to something?

Comments?

If it can be done, you prolly have the right combination. That's pretty quick though. Good luck, hope it goes right through.

Not gonna happen before Jan. Sorry.

Look at it this way:
1. no scheduling this week, so you wait til next Thursday at the earliest (12-2)
2. the soonest week they schedule for is not the next week, but the week after. (week of 12-13)
3. takes 10 - 14 days for delivery. (earliest would be 12-23). however, the shutdown is 12-20 through the 31st, so nothing is leaving the plant at that time. so what you would need is the car to be scheduled for 12-13 and to be finished that day to receive it in time

That is pretty quick. I told the salesman that Christmas 2004 struck me as awfully ambitious. Got lucky on the equipment combinations as that is truly what I wanted; not influenced by the recent supplier issues (although the latest info on the spoiler shortage kicked me off the fence---I like them with and without, but was leaning toward deleting for ease of washing / waxing and to cut the reported wind noise, and b/c to me it looks more like the 65/66 shape & lines without the spoiler).

January is still before Mardi Gras, as early as that is this year. I'd be happy with anything before 2/8/04....but interested in everyone's comments.

Thanks.

You'll have it before Feb. 6-8 weeks from order, usually 4-6 from when the order is pulled, or 2 from build week.

edit: i also read a post from someone today who said they had been scheduled that week already. that means its probably mostly taken, if it completely. so that puts you into jan ... in that case you might not see your car til feb.

Good analysis, Grantsdale. That's exactly what I was loooking for. Thanks.

And I really don't want them to rush---build it right, and pick me out a good Shaker audio system without the bugs !!!

What's the best day for a car to be built? Is it Tuesday-Wednesday, or Thursday??

Cannot influence that, but one can hope....

I believe that next weeks pulls are for first week of January production (not at work now, so I could be wrong), if thats the case, and there are no comodities isues, you're looking mid Jan at the earliest. With the IUP and automatic GT restraints I doubt you'll be scheduled immediately. Hope, for your sake, I'm wrong.

No I think you're correct. Like I said in my last post someone has a 12-13 build week already, and 12-20 and 12-27 are not being used, so that puts him in jan.

Does your 6-8 weeks include the 2 week shutdown in December?

Mardi Gras may not be feasible; pray that the 96 Jeep GC can stay out of the shop until the Stang is ready....

no it doesn't, thats just the normal turnaround time. if you get scheduled next week, you'll get your car in time. if its the week after, it will be tight, but you should get it. after that, you're probably not getting it.

Hey Paul, glad you're here tonight...

What IUP and automatic GT restraints? I thought GT IUP orders were being filled?

And I also thought the tranny restraint was for manuals; they wanted 2 auto orders for each manual order submitted. Do I have that backward??

Or did I miss a memo??

GT IUPs are being filled, but only in blocks. Not immediately. I think you're right on the auto vs tranny, I don't know if Paul had it backwards, or just had a mind fart.

It's late, he may be tired.

I'm OK to wait; not chomping at the bit, yet.

Just won't put out the For Sale sign on the Jeep just yet. And I have the 65 fastback to play with in the meantime.

Really appreciate Grantsdale and Karpro's input.

Is my dealer's allocation and extras low, moderate, or high??

They do have available allocation, I am told....

I'm not sure what that means....7% of all the cars built that week will be 4.6L 3V OHC w/Automatic ? Or, 7% of V8s will be automatic?

Same for IUP---17% of all cars built will have IUP? or is that the % of IUP orders that will be filled that week?

Not trying to complicate, just trying to undrestand the stats...thanks...

The way it has been explained to me is that 7% of the cars to be scheduled this week can be V8 auto's. 17% of the cars scheduled can have IUP (83% can't), etc..

So 69% of the build will be V8 stick or V6 auto., etc..

Haven't gotten our allocation for the next quarter, but for us in the dead of winter 55 would be strong.
