Question, anyone pay more then $500 to order their mustang? Dealer that will take my order wants $1000 up front. I've ordered cars in the past and $500 was always reasonable. Anyone else run into this? :bang:

That is exactly how much I gave as a deposit also. Dealer asked for $1000 and I just told him no.

Don't worry if you didn't go through with the deal he would have no problem selling the car to someone else anyway.

Dealer asked me what I wanted to put down. I think it depends on the dealership but asking 1k seems a little high although that is what I put down when I ordered. 500 seems more reasonable.

They called back and said $500 was fine. Now the waiting game begins!

500 is standard and it has to be refundable if you dont get the car, otherwise they are stealing your money. Some places will take a check and verify that it is good but not cash it prior to getting the car. I didnt put a deposit down at the place I ended up getting the car, but did with several other dealers I ordered from no one ever cashed it. And when I got the car I called them and they sent me the checks back

My dealer asked me how much I wanted to put down.

I told them I could do $500.

They accepted without any question.

It is definately negotiable and all the dealers I've contacted in the past on ordering a car seem to feel $500 is a reasonable amount. I'm sure the dealer realizes the customer is sincere if they are willing to part with that kind of cash up front and they know you'll come back.

Hey Ronnie, for every order I have taken on a Mustang, I only ask for $500, AND it is 100% refundable. I still don't know what is wrong with these dealers who want $1,000 or more to order a car. It's not like the car won't sell if the customer doesn't end up taking it.

My dealer insisted on a $1000.00 "non-refundable" deposit, which I did back in April. Still waiting on the car, but the check was cashed half a year ago...

$500 is reasonable [make sure it is refundable no matter how much]. In 75 years of business we have never kept a customer's deposit. It just is not good business to do so, besides they will probably buy another vehicle or two in their lives and you want them coming back.
