Options Ford should offer on the Mustang
As I have read posts on this board and taken a close look at the Mustang in person, it seems like there are a few things lacking. I have a list of some things that I think should be available as options on the Mustang. But I want to hear what you guys think.
(I know this is similar to another topic posted, but that one was after market options).
Tilt telescoping steering wheel.
Memory seat back. (I don't want to have to adjust the seat back angle every time I through something into the back seat.)
Advance Trac (Ford has no excuse not to offer this)
Heated Seats
Interior Trunk release button.
Leather back seat
(All of the above were available in the $18k focus 4 years ago.)
Auto dimming mirror
Automatic Climate control.
6-speed manual
Memory seat
Heated mirrors
Integrated keypad entry
All of these things are already in Ford's parts bins, there's no excuse for not offering them.
And before I get flamed for suggesting luxury items be place in a sports car, I'm only suggesting that these be options. Those wanting the "pure" sports car experience would still be able to get it.

I still think an LX model would be a good move. I'd also like to see several different size engines offered in the GT (maybe create some sub-categories within the GT category). That way folks who wanted big-time N/A power could have it in a Bigger-Cubes-GT while others could just throw a S/C on their lil ol 281.
How about....
-Factory Navigation System
-Summer Tires (think good old square shouldered gator backs) vs. the standard all season Pirelli's.
-The gauge package should be standard on the GT or at least offered as a stand alone. Not my-color, just the gauges and the trip computer for about $150.00.
-Moonroof or leak proof T-tops like in '86.
-Build the radio antenna into one of the windows for a cleaner look. My wife's 2001 Windstar had it why not the Mustang?
-Backup alert system
-Automatic climate control
-Audio control's on the steering wheel so I can pay better attention to my driving!

6 speed SMG/DSG (paddle shift auto), Power moonroof, AWD, a variant that is a V6 Hybrid, the hood from the concept!, ducktail rear spoiler, and last but not least -- never EVER put a non-functional vent in a car.
I'm going to suggest power adjustable pedals. I know what it is like to eat an airbag and I'd like my wife to be a bit further from the steering wheel should it go off.
Ford puts them in everything else, why not the mustang?

For starters I hate the option package idea. Let me clarify that, you should be able to get any of the options in the option packages separately. Ford just limits things to much by only offering them as a package. For instance I liked everything about the IUP but the silver dash. I couldn't stand it. But if you get one you get the other as well.
I ordered mine without. I got what I wanted in the end thanks to Kevin, but it would have been easier if it came that way from the factory.
Things that should be standard equipment:
1. The 6 Guage cluster should be standard on all Mustangs. GT's at least.
2. A six speed manual transmission should be standard. The were standard on the Firebird/Camaro since 93' and every 6 banger ricer comes with one now, why not those of us with cool cars. I know it would make a huge difference in gas milage on the road. I'm well over 2000 rpm at 70. Come on Ford!
3. Rear seat floor mats.
4. Interior trunk release (this seems to be a popular one on the forum).
Things that should be avalible:
1. The antenna is a pain to deal with when puting on car covers, so a power antenna would be nice.
2. A sport suspension package. It's not for everyone, but some of us like the tighter ride and better handling.
3. Lower Profile tires (maybe this should be under standard equipment). The stock tires are too tall and too narrow.
4. Chrome bullitt wheels. They are way better than the current upgrade wheels.
5. Different gear ratios in the rear end. Bring back the drag pack like in the old days.
6. A blackout panel for the trunk between the tail lights. Another one from the past.
Really other than the Guage cluster and Trannsmission the other stuff isn't a big deal, it would just be nice. There is of course an aftermarket for that.

Actually, these are things I think should have been standard in a top-of-the-line (GT Premium w/IUP) $30K car, but I would have paid for them as options:
1) Additional interior lighting such as:
Glove box light
Lights under dash
Lights on lower rear of door panels, not just reflectors (for safety and to illuminate ground when open and to light rear seat footwells when closed)
Light under hood
(The Dark Charcoal interior is VERY dark at night with just the map lights).
2) Counterbalanced hood (no hood prop)
My $17K stripped-down Dakota has this. The Mustang should, too, IMO.
3) Interior trunk and fuel-filler door release.
4) Either telescoping steering wheel or adjustable pedals or both. One reason I went with an automatic tranny was that I felt I had to move the driver seat too close to the steering wheel to be safe in order to depress the clutch.

An Excellent suggestion.
Ford should offer an option to give me a Mustang gratis.
Don't know how that'd work, exactly... I'm thinking soul or first born. Actually, I can do the latter, but it'd be a lay-a-way plan...
/very much enjoying single life.
//edit: Oh yeah. And Emberglo.

I think this goes for re-design aspects. for some people who do not like the fogs in the middle of the grille, I think they should place them below the amber marker in the bumper, like in the concept. Maybe offer fogs for V6 stangs for those who want them, but more discretly. But the fogs in the center of the section grille in the GT is retro and I like it
