Opinions on naming cars.

What does everyone think of people who name their cars and refer to them like they are a person? Is this strange behavior or normal?

IMHO it is normal. Kinda. Ok, it is a bit odd, but come on, when you love something you name it. When you invest a huge chunk of your income on a car, why not treat it like a member of the family. Car enthusiasts are a different breed to be sure. We understand the relationship between man and machine.

Depends on the extent. I "named" mine, but I don't refer to it by name in conversation or anyting. I'm military, and I guess it harks back to naming a rifle so as to appreciate it more and take better care or something. Honestly, I don't know why I was attraced to naming it, but I was and did.

Come on.
What would this place be without my Ellie and His Ralph

I call em by name to distinguish em-
Otherwise it would be my Kickass Yellow and his Tungsten.

Psychologists claim it is not uncommon for children to make up imaginary friends or establish imaginary relationships and is a common, normal behavior although their statistics indicate that eventually they are more likely to enjoy the comforts of sofa consulatations.

I've named a car before.....but it was because it was a piece of crap. I had a '94 Suzuki Sidekick 4x4 with 190,000 miles and called it "the Red Dragon".....by buddy had a an '86 Aries K Wagon and he m\named it "the Silver Bullet".....but I've never named a car a human name....so my '65 remains nameless....and I dont really plan on naming it....but I'm not opposed.

I haven't named a car, but I've always refered to them as a woman like "she" or "Baby". The of course there's name calling when something breaks i.e. B!@# or POS. But that's something i'm sure everyone has done at one point or another.

I had an orange car before that I called Pumpkin. No name yet for this Mustang but not opposed to naming cars.

My car has a name which is Mustang and I refer to it as "it". When people ask about "it" I tell them "it" is a badass vehicle...

I recently over heard a conversation between two GTs referring to their owners as Mary and Susie.

So I was curious and wouldn't you know it? A few minutes later a couple of guys got in the GTs and drove off.

Mine is named "The Awesome Vehicle 4." It stems from a long line of Awesome Vehicles dating back to 1989!

It is ok to refer to "The Awesome One" in conversation as well.

When I had my WS6, a coworker used to stop me at work alot and talk about cars. He told me cars with auto trans were girls and cars with manual trans are boys. I always thought he was kinda crazy. I don't see his logic. Apparently I believe he felt I was delinquent for not having named my car.

But I've never really named my cars. I once had a blue mercury lynx with a broken air conditioner. Around my peers, I often referred to it as the "Blue Flame". Blue because of the color, and Flame because Alabama summers without air are hot as hell.

I never paid much attention, but I found out that my wife has been naming all of our cars. She has been calling my black mustang, "Blackjack". That is just too corny for me. Now I feel compelled to come up with a more proper name.

Trigger is the first car i have ever named. I use her name so much that everyone at home and at work calls her Trigger.

My daughters and I love to go out and leave "Triggy Tracks" all over town.

This is my first named vehicle, although I never refer to it by name generally. But when I do something that gets me a discouraging look from my fiance` in my Mustang, I tell her "it's "Roxies" fault!"

I think the vast majority of people name their cars but a much smaller percent actually refer to them only by name.

We refer to them by name as do everyone who knows us-
Ellie is famous.
People ask me: How is Ellie?
And when we go out we say: Ralph Ellie or Both(if we have the kids we usually take both because they are teenagers who hate the backseat).
