Thumbs down

Ok now that I've got your attention.

Obviously a lot of you aren't reading the NEW Announcement above the stickys! You probably didn't notice it. Please go check it out.

I read it and did my part, now it's your turn to show some courtesy and do the same. Let's not turn this thread into a "hit list" and have us all start naming names of offenders. You know who you are, so please do us all a favor and cut down your signatures.

Why do some sigs have a lot of empty space below them? Won't do much good to shorten one if that "gap" remains.
BTW, I did my part, too.

I personally don't care how long your sig is, but people have been complaining that long sigs make it hard to read topics.

I don't believe it's too difficult to roll your sigs. Zig Zags makes a product for this.

Click on where it says "My controls" on the upper right and then on "view signature options" on the left.

I do want to say, for the people that don't go to the "site suggestions" forum, that in the thread I created there, no one said it was a bad idea. If you had seem some of the signatures (31 lines in one case, 25 in another, 20+ is some more) I think you would agree as well. If you are posting a book for every post, and then have a 20 line sig, thats fine. But when you post one line of text, followed by 20 of your sig, all you are doing is:

1) increasing site load
2) increasing bandwidth usage
3) making the thread less readable
4) increasing scrolling for everyone

Also, someone said "I've never seen so much nitpicking". You must not have been to many web forums, because most are far worse than this. TMS has barely any rules as far as the forums go, and people will do whatever they can get away with.

If you don't think this is better than before, look at this thread: http://forums.bradbarnett.net/index.php?showtopic=17234
13 posts in it right now (and only two or three excessively long signatures), scroll through it and then scroll through this one, a similar sized one. Tell me this isn't better. They are about the same size, this one is a few lines shorter and this one has 6 more posts.

I shortened mine 3 or 4 lines. I guess I did my part. I have my sig kinda detailed because that's actually a record of everything I have done or plan to do so that I can always look on here and reference it. I don't mind shortening it though. I saw a few sigs that must have been 15+ lines long. But takes literally half a second and a half turn on your mouse scroller wheel to move down to the next post. Personally, I think it's more important that we all search the forum real good before posting a new thread. That's much more important than shortening sigs. If everyone here did a good search before starting up a new thread, we'd have literally half the stuff to read that we do now. And I would actually be able to read every thread instead of picking and choosing because of time constraints and then I end up reading the same info over and over in the ones I choose. Just my two cents.

Edit: And by the way, I don't think I was clear enough. I do think it's a good idea to shorten sigs up as much as we can. It's one thing to have a long sig, but another to have a sig with 20 lines with 2 or 3 words on every line. I say 8 is a good number as far as lines. I guess that's four cents now...
