Thumbs up

2 weeks ago I put $1000 down on a GT Premium (see Sig below). The dealer had ordered it first week in January and told me 4-6 weeks. I just did a search for used 05's and found one 13 miles from me. Exactly what I ordered but Shaker 500 instead of 1000. It has the upgraded wheels but I want to change to 18's anyway. Trouble is he has it advertised for $29,500, thats more than the new one andIt has 1500 miles on it! MSRP is only $27825. The guy that bought it was laid off and they bought the car back. I'm going to see it tomorrow.

What is a fair price to offer the dealer??

or... should I wait for the new one?

I would say wait. You are paying more for a used car.

Say it’s used and no one wants a used for more then a new car.

I certianly wouldn't pay $29,500 for it but what if I offered him $26,000? That should be more than invoice. I can't see even paying MSRP with 1500 miles on it.

Bear in mind that the dealer will not have paid him the full amount for the car, I would be suprised if they gave him more than $22k. invoice doesn't matter for this one as they have already been paid invoice for it and are just wanting to make some extra money out of the deal. Offer $24.5k!

You think

He will probalby laugh at me but what the heck, might be worth a try.

that would be like 5K less than the new one.

I could do all the mods I want, well... almost!

JBA Exhaust
Painted custom stripes
18x9 wheels, tires
tinting
etc. etc.

you lose about 20% the moment you drive it off the forecourt. it is the new car "WOW" factor, once it is even slightly used, it loses some of it's appeal.

In my opinion, $25K is ALL the money. I sell that car at less than $26,000 brand new, no miles. Normally I would want to be a couple grand less to take a used one but with the waits I might consider a little more money than normal.

Thanks for the info Karpro!

I will go look at it and drive it tomorrow. :drive:

I know you can't answer this for sure but do you think 4-6 weeks for my new one if it was ordered begining of January is unrealistic? It still is not scheduled. I've been trying to get a DORA on it and the dealer seems to be putting me off. Yesterday it was "the computers were down" and this morning he said he would get right on it but still no fax! I'm getting nervous because I keep reading these stories of how long people are waiting for their cars.

Well here is the 05 GT with 1500 miles on it.

He has 29,500 on the sticker
MSRP on this car is 27,825
His bottom dollar 27,500!!

I told him 25,000 and I MIGHT think about it. Says he paid more than that for it. Well, I will wait, if someone comes along and pays that price more power to them. I will find one if I have to fly somewhere and drive it back! I really liked it though

The dealer is looking for a fool. I bought the same exact car but silver for $26,500. More power to him if he finds that fool.

Yes, I agree, I told him if I'm going to pay new price, I'm going to get a new car!

He said in so many words... good luck finding one. Even if I have to fly somewhere and drive it home... i'll find one. I will wait a few more weeks to see if my status changes.

The other thing I hate is they acted like I'm some dumb kid with no money. Geeze, he asked what I did for work. How will I pay, I said cash and they looked at each other. Was real uncomfortable. couldn't wait to get out of there! Too bad these days you still have to bring a man with you to buy a car.

What he said.. If they acted like you couldn't afford it then ^&#$^#*& them. I'm a sales manager at a building supply and I tell my salesPEOPLE that the women make the buying decision's most of the time.

Buy new. You will regret it if you do not.

I walked into a dealer back in 2000 and wanted to buy a truck, cash. Was ignored and went down the street and bought my truck and was on the road in two hours. If you are wearing jeans and a t-shirt, you get no respect. It is not just a sex thing.

I know how tough the wait can be but it will be worth it. That "HE SAYS THE PREVIOUS OWNER" line from a dealer isn't worth the powder it would take to blow it to H#!ll IMO.

Wait for the new one. Who knows how hard the previous owner (and any other test drivers) drove those 1500 miles !!

Wait for the new. The wait stinks, but you there's something about getting "your" car that just rocks. Good luck.
