Why doesn't ford use shorty antenna from the factory? I mean 99% of fords i see have aftermarket antennas and they don't seem to affect reception so why doesnt ford just save the owner the trouble and have shorty antenna from the factory like most other manufacturers?

Better yet, why would Ford design such a beautiful car, then NOT put the antenna in the rear window like 99.9% of new cars do now.
I've got a shortened antenna but nothing can make that big black box where it screws into look any better. Unless you want to pay a body shop to get rid of it.

well... the back window may be too raked to have any good reception... because how an antenna works is the radio waves are transmitted and received perpandicular to the antenna.... So, if you have an antenna in the glass on the back of this thing, you're not going to pick up much, or ate least you're going to get a lot of interference with it.. a lot of scattered signals. Ford put the antenna in the glass on the rear quarter of my Expedition... but it's also nearly verticle.
But why they didn't use a shorter antenna?.... that's a good question.

Care to explain how the antennae on the ford focus and other cars with steeply raked antennae work? Cuz let me tell you, I have no reception issues with my Focus' radio.

The antennae on the mustang is an eyesore. Plain and simple. So are the giant shaving mirrors they used for the side mirrors.
These two elements really cheapen what is otherwise near flawless styling execution of the exterior.

Pain and simple, they cheaped out by putting a mast antenna.
I don't think they want to spend the money to tool up a different length for the antenna, what they probably use is a common part number that is used on any other cars with that same antenna.
If I ever have to do bodywork on the passenger side fender, I will shave the antenna.

GuessI'm going to have to be in the minority here, and say I like the pole. Gives it that old school muscle car look, and I like that. I think they did a good job making the 05+ look like the early models.
If I could find white letter tires to fit anything larger than a 16" rim I would get them too.

Maybe the fact that it's a mast antenna, as opposed to being embedded in glass allows for better reception... since the glass will reflect and refract the radio signals... maybe it makes no difference at all for FM radio, and Ford was simply being cheap.

I agree, it's a cost cut, but the typical mast antenna is more fitting for the body style than a roof mount angled one. When I think of the angled roof antenna I immediately think of new european cars, it wouldn't look right.

My Civics rear window was maybe 2 degrees less steeply raked than my Mustangs rear window, it had a window antenna and reception was perfect.
The fact is, go look at previous gen Mustangs, F-150's ect, you will find a striking similarity in both the mast and the black box thingy it screws into. It's because they cheaped out plain and simple. I wouldn't want the Focus antenna either, a simple clean rear window antenna would have been fine. I'm picking up local radio, not picking up satalite relays from Uranus.
