Oiling diagrams

Hi everyone!

I have the known tapping/ticking noise from the head/valve cover at hot idle. I expected that could be the roller followers/lash adjusters, so I decided to replace the followers (yes, I should have also replaced the adjusters). I was surprised that all the followers were OK, only 2 were showing a little wear, but none were Broken as expected.
The shop didnt tell me wich 2 or in wich bank, I've got the parts in a box. They also dind't found anything strange with camshaft/lobes, so I assumed everything was fine.
But no. The ticking is back in the same area, so I Guess It is oil related, but It is in bank 1, driver's, so I dont think It is a bad oil pump low oil pressure, I'm thinking about an oil passage clogged or....a lash, in bank 1. Passenger side makes no noise.
Does anyone have an oil block diagram? So I can find the possible blockagge... Can't found It in the internet...

Thanks to everyone from Spain!

Yeah, I've tried, but I wasn't able to find a diagram. Don't know even if they exist for dealerships, but I think someone could have gone through this before.
Thanks

While it's a 5.4, it's the same for what we're talking about, as far as the oiling goes.

The oil is delivered thusly in all Modular Ford Engines, 4.6, 5.4 and 5.0: Goes from the oil pan, through the pickup tube, then the oil pump, through the filter, then into the main pressure journal in the block. From there it's split into feeding the crankshaft and the two heads. Along the way up to the heads, it has a path to the timing chain tensioners, one per side. The path continues into the heads. In the case of a TiVCT engine, there is a separate journal that splits off to feed the phasers. Otherwise, there's a journal that goes down the length of the head under each camshaft at each pedestal. This journal also feeds oil to the lash adjusters. Oil then gets 'splashed out' from those areas and lubricates the followers and lobes.

I also found this, so you can see the 5.0 carries on the same system.

While the main differences are bore, stroke and 4 cams instead of two, the same pathways overall are being used.

Meaning all these engines have the same gotchas re: tensioners, oil passages, cam follower bearings... potentially anyway. Definitely the tensioners. HEED THE WARNING, first sign of chain slap, *do the timing*. Don't wait.

Trust me. I know what I speak.

Hope that helps! Good luck!

I liked this question very much. And it was relevant to that other thing y'all might have seen me diatribe at length about, so... yeah. Time to dig!

And I'm okish. Chaotic neutral, in D&D type terms, I believe.

Thank you so much, houtex, that is exactly what I was lookig for.
And thanks for your advice, but I have also gone through the chain tensioner issue. I have learned a lot about this engine, thanks to the issues experiences.
I had the cam phaser problem that was in reality a chain tensioner seal blown out, as you know, wich lead to a cam phaser failure, etc. I replaced phasers and do timing job, but then the ticking appeared (AFTER timing job). And the slight jerking is there ONE day BEFORE the phaser broken.
An oil change make both problems dissapear....for a while.
So, I'm thinking everything is oil related. As you may know, this car wasn't sold here in Spain,so shops have no info,no idea and techs don't speak english, so I have to tell them what to do.
Now i have a forscan tool coming with wich im going to take a look at phasers and solenoids and see if It is that way or a passage clogged (seal rests?).
Thank you again for your answers, men, you can not imagin how helpful are 7000km away...

Regards,
Jorge
