This thread would shut down the people who think you can't burnout in this car

Its probably easier to do a burnout in, than the Mach 1.

 

There was a 'rumour' that the 05 had a type of failsafe in the computer that would stop burnouts.
It would allow a squwak but no burnouts

 

Supposedly the rev limiter stops acceleration if the axle and rear wheels start to torgue-over under "abusive" behavior. Ford says "no burnouts allowed" on the '05. Hot Rod magazine is the first in the world to tune an '05 and put her in the mid 12 second quarter mile range. One of their tuners plugged in his laptop and it took him like two hours or something to find the line of code that limited "burnouts." Check out the article. it's good.

You can do a burnout by dumping the clutch at halfway rpm's.
Are you guys saying that you can't do a brakestand burnout?

 

Mine would barely chirp the tires from a standing start when I first got it....Just hooked up and took off! Never tried to powerbrake it, but I can say it wouldn't do a burnout just by flooring it for sure....Not a problem now with all the mods though! HAHA I'll put up the shot from Motor Trend making a nice cloud for those who haven't seen it yet....

 

Can you scan that article, or provide a link for it? I'd love to read it. Computer-aided-no-burnout-rev-limiter? So much for retro muscle car. So in the above picture... Did Motor Trend do some special mod/retune to get that nice smoky picture???

 

nah.. I just read the article at Wal Mart the other day. Hot Rod magazine online doesn't have the article up yet.

as long as you have the traction control off, i would hope its open game. at the ford innovation drive i watched a guy dump the clutch in 1st, then do a brake stand for about 15 sec. then let off the brake and spin through 2nd gear. so unless those cars were not equipped with this feature, i dont know.

man i will tell you what though, if ford wont allow a 300hp car to not do a burnout, they might as well put a freakin 1.3L Festiva engine in the mustang. i'll be upset if i cant do a burnout. thats ridiculous. someone please tell me otherwise!!

 

Well, I've got that mag., but no scanner. It's Paul's high performance that did the car, not Hot Rod(gimme a break, its not a GM product!!! ) and after some minor supension mods, Bassani exhaust and a CAI, they had SCT do a reflash and they claim that was when they found the "torque-mangagement strategy"(pg.95 HR). I don't know about this one , it kinda has the sound of "we found the secrets of the '05 Mustang, so use us before anyone else". BTW, this was notthe SEMA car, but an early-production model, according to the rag. :scratch:

 

There was a vid awhile back of a silver dealer car doing a nice burnout at a car show. I remember commenting that teh guy as a tool for doing it so close to other cars. But it was very possible to do and I believe this was even before SCT released their tunes for the 05's.

I've turned off the TCS and began to attempt to do one. I hesitated due to it just feeling like the car was "binding" up. It just didn't feel right to me compared to doing one in my 1969. I either wasn't giving it enough gas or I just don't know what the heck I'm doing. I tried to roll into it a bit as well, but again, it just didn't feel right. Besides, I REALLY don't feel like tearing up a brand new car or the clutch.

 

I remeber that vid. The guy was doing a burnout with people standing a few feet in front of the car.

All I can say is believe me... there is absolutely no problem doing a burn-out that would make anyone proud. B)

Perhaps I should take some pictures of two strange dark lines starting at my driveway and fading off into the distance.

okay-I couldn't stand it and went out to take about 3 months of tread off the tires. I was just babying it before, but to answer the question: YES-one can do a standing burnout without a problem. After I did one, my wife came out because my 5 yr old son wanted to be in the car with me in the car when I did one-so....I had to do another. Anyways, there's plenty of HP to lay some tracks!
