Unhappy

This just started the other day. When I first start the car, after it has been sitting for a few hours, there is a loud rattle coming from the front passenger side. It lasts a few seconds. If I turn the car off and restart it, there is no rattle. I need to let the car sit for at least 1 hour, then when I start it the same noise is back for a few seconds. Also I have noticed the colder the car is, the louder the rattle. Keep in mind the temp is still around 2 degrees celcius right now.

Odd part is this started right after I picked up the car from FORD when they were going to do the alignment but the tech insists they didn't touch anything. We can't find anything loose either. Not sure what it is and very odd that it doesn't do it if you immediately restart the car.

It's two missing bolts that are supposed to be in the debris shield that it attached to the bell housing of the manual transmission... had same problem.. take it to the dealer... Ford is aware of the problem and there is now a repair kit to address this...

Nope, that was not it. They put those bolts in and the noise is still there

Does it kind of sound like something is hammering the block? a rapraprapraprap then it disappears?

On the Mark VIII motors (I assume Cobras and such would be the same) there was an oil leak down issue that they *could* fix, but mostly didn't, because it would require a lot of dis-reassembly of the front of the engine. While not "normal" it was found it wasn't hurting anything either, if you can believe that. Mine did that all the time. www.markviii.org you might find more info about it there.

And yes, it did sound like it was coming from the right side. But I think it's acoustics of the car, mainly...

Have you had someone start the car whilst you were outside listening for it? Tedious, but maybe that'd help...

2 C? brr...

Yup, kinda sounds like that. The service manager only lives a few doors down from me and he came over to hear it, which he confirmed it is coming from the passenger side. We are still stumped as to why it only happens on the first turn over and then you need to wait for an hour before trying again.

Once the oil gets where it needs to be, then it won't do it. Hence the hour long wait for the oil to vacate the problem area, and then it will.

Lemme go look at that Mark VIII site...

(goes there... comes back...)

Here. Read this. Hope that helps.

Edit: WAIT. That's the secondary timing chain rattle. Hm. That means it's not directly applicable to the '05 GT, but perhaps that variable thingy...?

Found this one too:

Ok, that's all I got. Hope that helps. Didn't I just say that? Well I do. Ok!bye!

Could the opening of the thermostat be causing something to move?
