The guys over at Oak-land lincoln in Oakville where I bought my GT are building one of their stock black GT's into a HERTZ lookalike. So far the stripes are on, with the rest of the gear being fabricated Looks sweet! I'll post pics tonight.

Like the 1966 Shelby Hertz GT-350H.

Hertz bought a few of the Shelby's and put a H behind the GT-350 to show a difference. They are fairly rare cars.

They were/are pretty sweet looking cars, look them up on the net.

Are you sure the H is for Hertz? Don`t they rent cars? I never heard of that, but that doesn`t mean much

Yes the H is for Hertz. It was for their frequent drivers back in the 60's...they had an option where those people could rent Shelby GT-350H's. The major difference was that these were all black and had gold stripes, where the regular shelby's only came blue/white stripes, red/white stripes, and white/blue stripes.

If I remember that all right.

I saw a GT-350H the other day in a parking lot (at a brake shop I think)... I was like ... don't know if it was original, but who cares?

They weren't all Black w/Gold stripes. Look under Brad's Timeline 1966

One of the interesting items about the 350-H's. . .

Hertz killed the idea after some of them were returned altered - where roll bars were installed and then removed for a weekend of racing

Yep. I was around at that time and saw a couple of them on road courses. What's that expression? Oh yeah. Drive it like you don't own it!

I read in one of the Shelby history books, most of them didn't originally come with the LeMans stripes.
It's just that over the years, people have added them in their restorations.
I know they were a dealer installed oprion in '67/'68.

This is my favorite Shelby. It didn't have the LeMans stripes. It's the very first S/C Shelby Mustang. And the only GT 350S.

Only the black '66 Hertz rentals had LeMans stripes. The other colors did not.

Steve, you're right about that - a few were returned with plain-jane 289's under the hood. Holes drilled in the floorpans for bolt-in roll bars, etc.

No wonder Hertz said "enough!" after one year.

Yep! And, if memory serves, a **couple** of '69 Hertz GT350s made it out the door, too.
