NYC nights starring Mustang GT....
It was 8pm,
The streets of NYC are clear now.
I go for my 1st drive/cruise since taking my GT back from the dealer.
The valet drives my GT up and hands me my keys.
I remove the front/rear bumper guards (takes 15 sec) and put it the trunk.
I appreciate how solid and substantial this mustang feels. I love how heavy the doors shut and i really like the simple clean interior.
while on the FDR, a 03-04 SL500 pulls up to me at 60 mph and we both gun it. My stang bone stock keeps up to about 100 mph.
i get to my friends office in the bronx and immediate his coworker asks me about the car.
I head back to Manhattan and i realize how bouncy the ride is. Definitely needs lowering springs and better shocks.
i pull into my indoor parking garage around 9:30pm and i park along side a C6 black Vette, BMW 550i sport grey, Benz CLS55 white 19" wheels. There are a few people in the garage waiting to get their cars and they circle around my mustang and not even pay attention to the other cars. 2 people ask me about the car again!
within 1.5 hrs, 3 people asked me about this car. And that is with my car bone stock! Its just very clean and 17" bullit wheels clean, tires armor-all'd.
i wonder what attention i'll get when i do shelby fascia, hood, lowered and 20" wheels!
I personally see VERY few Mustang GT's in the NY/NJ area. I guess thats good for me!!

When Ford leaves the designers (mostly) alone to do their thing, good stuff happens.
Let's face it - the S197 is just a beautiful car, with all the little things that bring up and highlight the heritage of the marque without it just being a re-hash of the 60's designs.
I cannot help but smile when I see ours from almost any angle.

totally agreed!!
trust me! i'm all about the cars lines and styling. A GT lowered with nice wheels in my opinion looks way better than a bmw 650i coupe which is like $80K.
its so amazing.
and this is coming from me who never bought a USA car until this mustang came out!

agreed, i get a lot of attention b/c every car in my area is like a G35, an Evo, a WRX, a BMW, or some other type of import. I'm 2 min across the George Washington Bridge so I know exactly the feeling your getting.. even the MILFs picking up their kids from school compliment me on it .. i get a ton of thumbs up from everyone.. i think it was like 4 thumbs up just on the first day i had it alone.. Its strange thinking that Domestics are the rarity in NYC/NJ area.. but they definitely are.

i am another mustang driver in manhattan! i get compliments from the doods in big body benzes and bmws all day long. i have never driven a car that attracted this much attention. i dont even bother with the bumper protectors lol, once you get one scratch, its all over. part of dealing with parking garages in the city. maybe ill meet you on the fdr sometime lol i would be careful lowering it, i can barely get into the garage under my building, and im stock suspension, but with a chin spoiler.

Also, check the regional section come spring, summer & fall. A bunch of us get together for road runs to Pa, NJ, Ct and elsewhere. Trips to the race tracks (1/4 mile stuff), hitting the cars shows, etc... more the merrier.

Sadly I didn't have a choice... the pinion bearings went and the gears got damaged. So back to stock she went and it also put me back under warranty coverage(which is a good thing). I'm pretty much done with my 1/4 mile runs so I'm not too worried about it but what a difference 4.10's make. I will be putting them in again one day!

It's always so much fun to see a new Stang owner revel in the glory of other people's envy. Where I am at in NJ there are not many S-197's around to the point that I can count them
1 Legend Lime V6
1 Torch Red GT
1 Red Fire GT/CS
1 Vista Blue GT
1 Alloy Grey V6
1 Windveil Blue V6
And thats it, (until I get my new one). All the other Stang's are either out of state or SN95's. I always got tons of compliments on my Pony Package V6, I really miss the thumbs up and the stares (though not the Honda's reving on me )

and even fewer 05' Sonic Blues! You are right though, daily you won't see too many s197 on the roads in and around NYC.
