No tune for the K&N FIPK?
No tune for the K&N FIPK?
How can this "cold air" not require a tune? I'm REALLY new to mustang GT's and it's kinda overwhelming. I'm on this site day and night trying to learn the best ways to mod my Stang. With all the different Tuners and Tunes I don't know what to do. I would like to pick up a used tuner but it seems like that is just asking for a bunch of problems. Can one of you wizards set me straight?
Any CAI really requires a tune, K&N's FIPK kit just doesn't significantly alter the way air flows around the meter. However there is enough deviation to cause a lean condition which shows up as an increase in power.
Its certainly one way to make power (I've read it countless times in dyno articles - leaning the motor for best power) but your relying on a mechanical system that is essentially trying to fool the way the electronics control the engine.
IMO, I'd save my pennies and get a CAI along with a proper tune.

If you're going to spend that much, just go for the tuner. You're going to get a lot more out of it than only an intake, plus the tuner you can use for so many other things such as data logging, tweaking fan temps and changing gear ratios/wheel sizes should you ever change. Intake alone isn't worth it, IMO.
