Another TMS First!
My Sources indicate the The Next Version Mustang will be a JOB 2, MY 2008 Bullitt with Additional Horsepower. The deciding factor will be the Licensing Issue with the BULLITT Name. In Which case the Mach 1 would be the likely Package as FORD owns Rights to that. This Info is from a Source very high at FORD. BELIEVE IT OR NOT! When pressed about a SHAKER intake I did not get the impression this was being considered at this Time.

does JOB2 MY 2008 mean the 2nd half of the 2008 model year? Looks like I am going to be putting my 2007 order on hold for a Bullitt/Mach in 2008! WOOT!! I am excited!
Also, will this be a limited production model where the dealers will be messing with the price or will I actually be able to buy it on the x-plan? Keeping my fingers crossed for the shaker!!

A 2008 Bullit (40th anniversary of the movie!) should come with the long-awaited "hips" and flush 1/4 window louvers and, of course, in Dark Highland Green. Performance-wise, I'd like to see a 20-30 rwhp increase from the base GT.
A 2008 Mach 1 would be pointless witout a Shaker scoop and, like Mustangfreak already mentioned above, it's been remade recently. A Boss would make more sense, although it seems this might only come out as a MY2009 version.
Anyway, regardless of the version Ford chooses to make in 2008, I hope it's not going to be just a bunch of tacky cosmetic mods slapped onto a GT (Ã* la GT/CS).

Licensing should not be a problem considering a new Bullitt would bring renewed interest which turns to exposure and revenue for Warner Brothers as well as for the McQueen estate.
I would expect Ford to match the '08 closer to the '68's performance by having a n/a 5.4 (360 - 375hp range), 6-spd trans, 18" black Bullitt wheels, upgraded suspension and a double vented hood. The window louvers would be nice but I doubt Ford would include them since they do obstruct side views.

kc,
I want to believe your source! However, how do you reconcile that information with the following quoted from this story posted today on The Car Connection website -
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE</div><div class='quotemain'>Ford Takes Three-Pronged Approach to Performance
Ford plans to beef up its performance portfolio, Mark Fields, the automaker's President of the Americas , told a New York Auto Show audience on Wednesday. Central to the strategy is a renewed emphasis on the SVT line, which had been neglected in recent years. "The plan is to offer one performance car and one truck, going forward," Fields explained, with the pair likely to generate from 5,000 to 10,000 annual sales. A version of the Mustang and another SVT makeover of the F-Series pickup will be the latest offerings. Then there'll be "personalized performance," allowing customers to buy from a broad catalogue of performance parts and accessories. The third leg of Ford's performance strategy is the Ford Racing unit."
I'm betting if gas prices keep rising that major HP gains in any version/model will be a major consideration at Ford. My guess is very limited quanity of SE's with big HP, or for the masses same HP but more interior gadgets, seats, colors, body pannels, suspension etc.

Neither Job 1 nor Job 2 are tied to any specific date.
Usually Job 1 occurs in late July or early August, but Job 1 for the 05 Mustang was Sept 7, Job 1 for the 06 Mustang was August 9 (?? don't remember exactly) and Job 1 for the 07 Mustang is June 7.
Job 2 dates are whenever a significant change to what's being produced is rolled in.
Job 2 for the 05 Mustang was around Feb 1, 2005 when the vert models were added.
I'm not even sure there was a Job 2 for the 06 model.
On other Ford models I've seen Job 2 dates as early as November and as late as March.
The news of the Bullit is very good, just wish we didn't have to wait so long.

Yes, they need to speed this SE thing up to Spring or Summer of 07, as an 08 MY. I am running out of patience, plus I don't want to put any more money into my 87 Mustang GT.
I still love the new Mustang GT, and I have been eating my heart out ever since I got rid of my 2001 Mustang GT. I know as soon as I buy a new Mustang GT, an SE will follow a year later, and I will be kicking myself in the head for not waiting.

Wonder how close it will look to my chop (Goerges avatar)
I do know that the team mustang marketing director has a copy of it in his office on the wall and asked me my opinion of a bullitt when i talked to him last year
I know of a 2006 GT black on black that will be going up for sale soon if this is true

Tony,
As far as the credability of this information my source was very high up in the Ford corporate Ladder. I felt his info was sincere and accurate as of date. There will be a lot water under the bridge by the time the 08's are finalized so things could change however. I personally do not like to post anything unless I believe the Info to be postworthy. Time will tell if this is fact or fiction but in the meantime it is nice to dream.
