New Warranty Information Begins 7/14/06

Ford has revamped their warranties.
Effective tomorrow, all 2006 models [except Focus and Fleet models as well as F650/750] will have a no charge 5 year / 60,000 powertrain ESP with $100 deductable thru Sept delivery date.

All 2007 models [with same exceptions as above] with have the following standard warranty:
36/36,000 bumper to bumper
60 mo / 60,000 mile powertrain warranty [ I need to double check on a deductable]
Diesel 60 mo / 100,000 mile warranty with $0 deductable.

That's cool.

ESP = Ford "Extended" Warranty

If you have a low milage older ford you can qualify for ESP as well...

I need to get my 2000 F250 onto the Ford ESP.

Me too Fritz. I am going to call and find out if it now gets extended. In theroy it should extend the same amount of time beyond. If it doesnt Ill just get my $$ back.
Regardless, FINALLY something good from Ford that we can use and be happy with IMHO. 3/36 is a joke. Maybe they do really want to bring customers back.

From the Automotive News report:

"The enhanced warranties will be honored on all 2007-model-year vehicles, including those already sold to customers."

I think some of you are not reading this right.. This looks to be a powertrain only ESP not the whole car.

Finally some life from Ford!! The imports have been doing this for years. My 00 Nissan Maxima had a 5/60K Powertrain warranty and it came in handy. Ford should up the bumper to bumper to 4/48 IMO. Either way the resale values of Fords should slightly increase and maybe will work towards helping Ford build a "quality" image, much like Hyundai did with their 10/100K warranty.

Just to let you know, the Hyundai 10/100K warranty is only good for the original owner. If you were to purchase a used Hyundai, the powertrain warranty becomes void. It isn't transferrable. The powertrain ESP on the 2006 models Ford is including IS transferrable.

Hyundai's warranty is still more comprehensive. You still have the 5/60 Bumper-to-Bumper warranty that is transferable. IF you were to keep the car for 10/100K, you still have that to fall back to. The Domestic mfgs have been a bit lazy to bumper their warranty coverage. This will help, but it still IMO isn't enough.

I understand that. I just wanted to make sure that I listed that the Hyundai powertrain warranty is only good for the orignal owner. You'd be surprised how many people come into my store, and not know that the powertrain expires when the car is sold. In the end, it would be great for Ford to do a 5/60 Bumper to Bumper, but I don't see it coming anytime soon. Though maybe it is, and this is the start of it.

Clarification

The 5 yr / 60,000 mile powertrain somes with all new 2006's purchased today and thru Sept.
It is included on all npon-fleet 2007's retro to the beginning of the 2007 model year. That means if you bought a 2007 a month ago, you have the warranty.

Can I run a scenario by you? What if I had purchased the PowertrainCARE 5 year/100,000 mile ESP on my 2007 before this new warranty came out. Could I go back to the dealer and negotiate my ESP, since I'm getting that coverage now for free anyway?

I guess I could always cancel my ESP...apparently you can do that in the first 60 days after purchase...but how much of a hassel would the dealer give me, d'ya think?

Son of a .. you mean to tell me that I just bought an '06 GT... one of the very last in production for that model year, and the ones still sitting on the lot that were built before mine are going to get this warranty, yet I get hosed? I paid hansomely for the extended warranty, and it goes through a friggin' 3rd party and comes with a deductable... the amount of which I can't remeber.. but I'm not sure if it's as low as $100.00.

I got hosed Tommy..... I got hosed.

Little update...

I've heard that Ford has a list of all the 07 owners who paid for ESP, and closer to the end of the month will be informing the dealers who sold the customers the warranty to give them some kind of refund on the ESP they purchased.

HOWEVER, the amount of the refund may be dependent on the dealer, so it could be a case of the fox in the henhouse....
