New Stratus....I'm Sirius.....

First, I did a search on this and other forums and couldn't find the answer.
I'm sure it's out there, but I guess I suck at searching.

I picked up the Sirius plug and play, the Stratus.
I think I'm going to mount it next to the glove box, I don't care for it on the dash or between the center vents.

My question(s)...

Can I plug this into the port in the center boot, or does it have to plug into the dash port?
If so, I think I can route the wires so that they will hardly be seen.

Also, if I had a vert my option for the antenna mount would be the trunk lid.
I assume that this will work for my coupe, but less ideal than the roof.
I'm kind of torn on where I want to put it.
Anyone do the trunklid mount with a coupe?

Thanks ahead of time for any help you can give me.

I have XM, my antenna is on the trunk lid. I get great signal 98% of the time. The factory Sirius ant is on the trunk lid.
Yes you can plug into the power port in the center console, shouldn't have any problems.

yeah, put it on the rear decklid, you wont have any issues. Finding a place to put it on a Jeep however, thats a little difficult. Any plug in will work, I just hate the fact that that's usually the shorter wire, so it's hard to hide it. I believe there's a way to tie it into the wires behind the dash, but Im not sure.

Here's how I did mine.

That's about the only angle you can see the wires at all. My first iterations of this install there was only the antenna and power wires and I had it more tucked in than it is now. I have since added an Aux connector and am now also running a headphone cable for that so it changed the stealthyness of the install.

The power is using an XM adapter that I tapped into the key on power source behind the stereo, it's a simple cigarette lighter do dad I think they sell seperately at Radio Shack. I got it as part of the XM FM Modulator kit I bought. My antenna is installed on my rear speaker deck where I find the signal is a little better and more reliable than it ever was on my rear trunk lid. I have the antenna routed away up to the child safety tether behind the drivers side rear seat. I simply popped the trim ring out, took the cap off and put it back. With the cap off the magnet for the antenna was more than strong enough to hold it to the tether underneath. I get less drops installed this way than I did on the rear trunk lid and it also deters people from f'ng with the thing, not that I had an issue with it.

The mount is from Pro-Fit. It sticks out a bit but not too bad. Maybe only annoying thing about it is over big bumps and what not it can vibrate a bit but the great thing is it's easy for the driver and passenger to reach without leaning and it's easy to install and remove later on.

The picture above is a little deceiving, it doesn't block access to the right hand buttons (for the driver of course) and it is only out about 3-3.5inches. You can see it better here with my original XM installation from last summer.

Thanks guys.
Cowtown, that's about where I was planning to mount the unit, on the space to the left of the piece above the glovebox.
So it will sit very similarly to yours.
Good idea on the rear deck, I think I'm going to do that.
How hard was running all of the wiring from front to back?

i installed my sportster 4 suctioned at the bottom corner of the windshield and my girlfriends stiletto by the glovebox with the mustang specific mount and put both antenna in the center of the dash. i get almost the same reception as having it outside but i dont have to worry about tyhe antenna scratching the paint of the stang, because once the slightest dirt gets under it it will vibrate while driving and act like sandpaper over time...just like a bra. I also hardwired both and spliced the power to behind the dash power point so you can see anything.

il take pics of mine and post them so you can see for yourself.

I installed it.
Easier than I thought.
I think I did a good job routing the wires.
I ended up putting the antenna inside the car, on the rear deck.
Ran the wire through the carseat hook.

Here's a quick pick of it mounted and playing.

Idk if it would work in the Mustang, because I dont have one to check it with :-(. I did install one in a Windstar at the top of the windshield, above the rearview mirror. I dont have any pictures of it right yet. It mounts really clean, its out of the way, and you can tuck the wires completely out of view...if the AC adaptor is long enough. I ran the wires from the back, along the headliner, by pulliing back the rubber retainer enough to tuck in the wires. Then did the same around the A pillar and roofline, and at that point, if you have a lot of extra antenna cable, you can just tuck it in behind the a pillar cover, like I did. In that position it works fantastically, its easy to reach, and out of the way. Even for me, seat all the way back, with some lean, its not a problem at all to push the buttons, but I use the remote most of the time.

more pics

Okay, I moved the antenna into the well for the carseat hook, removing the hook cover completely.
Now there is no wire on the rear deck, and the antenna fits nice and snug for a clean look.
Also took shot from the other side so you can see where I routed the wires.
The wires from the unit into the crease by the glovebox are all you see.
I'm pretty happy.
