New to the forum, and to modding.

Hello. Someone had directed me to this forum for questions. I've been lurking for a while now and just looking at a lot of the photos you guys are posting of your Mustangs, and I must say, I'm really getting excited about modding mine. Only problem is I just don't have the cash right now to be doing all this stuff. But I've already made a list of what I want done, and been looking for people who've posted similar mods on here to see if they look nice. And boy, they do.

My question is, what should be the order of the installs. I know some can be done whenever, but I figured some should be done before others, or vice-versa.

Here's my car first. Stock Black '06 Mustang GT.

Here's what I want done.

• Matte Black Stripes (I had thought about this when I got my car last November, but wasn't sure if it would look good. Then Knight Rider Came out, and that made up my mind. Plus I've seen a few photos on here that do look good.)

• Shaker Hood Scoop/Cold air intake

• Side window scoops

• Lower Side Scoops.

• Ford Performance Racing Exhaust

• Performance Chip

• Chin Spoiler

• and grille. (Im going back and forth on this. I don't really like the billet grille. Plus they're too common. I did however see a mesh grille, but can't seem to find it for sale anywhere. But I'd like to keep the car mostly all black, and this would really stand out. So I was also thinking about getting the grille the moves the fog lights in closer together. )

So what do you think the plan of attack should be?

I just love this car. I've had it for almost a year, and I still enjoy driving it. I was afraid that it would just turn into a normal everyday driver, and I would forget/get used to the power. But I just love having the power when I need it. All my friends tell me that I'm just showing off. I tell them, "Hell, I'd do this even if they wasn't anybody around. I'm showing off for myself."

Thanks

Thanks.

Would I be correct in assuming the the Chip would be the very last thing? So that it can be tuned to all thats installed.

I think the mesh grille you might be looking for is Agent 47 grille. I think John, 05GT-O.C.D., is using this.

Check this link, you might ask him about it. His is the red car. And of course mine is the black with matte black stripes.

And welcome to the site.

I like the Agent 47 grille a lot. Thinking about getting one later.

Hi Woody and welcome to TMS!

Since you said you don't have a lot of money to start your mods, looking at your list I would say start with the exhaust. That is where I started on mine. You will love the sound and it will just give you even more incentive to save up for the other mods. The other exterior mods you want can get a bit pricey due to having them painted. Some you can get prepainted but so far I have not read too many good reviews on prepainted parts.

If you are good with a drill and jigsaw, you can install the shaker hood scoop yourself. Take a look at my blog for some information.

As for the performance chip, well, you just buy a programmer. I recommend Bamachips. Doug is a great guy to deal with. You can get the SCT Xcal3 by itself or with a CAI.
http://www.bamachips.com/

As for when to buy it, that doesn't matter too much. The programmer is beneficial even on a stock car. Doug can then send you new tunes via email based on any other mods you may add. You do not need a tune for the mufflers. Some CAI do not require a tune but you will not get the full benefit of it withouth having a tune. If you change gears or tire size (diameter) you can program that yourself into the Xcal3.

Take a look through the GT performance section for stuff regarding tunes, exhaust, suspension etc. Browse the exterior mods section for chin spoilers, 1/4 window louvers, rims, etc etc etc.

Also, does anybody know a place online where I can buy seat-lean-forward *****? I don't know what the technical name is. The **** that in on the back side of the seat. Now the handle on the side. Someone got in, and snapped it right off. Cheap plastic. I looked on line for Billet replacements. But wouldn't you know, you can replace everything else in the cab, except for those.

Woody, given your limited budget the first things I would do are-
1) new CAI or K&N type air filter
2) bigger brakes! GT500 pull-offs would be my first suggestion
3) LCAs (Lower Control Arms) really anythig suspension wise unless you only want the "average" handling
4) Axel back mufflers
5) Underdrive pullies

Appearance:
1) side scoops
2) chin spoiler
3) stripes

In this order your car will gradually grow and you will become addicted to not leaving it alone...

I have seen Billet replacements for those just not sure where the link is. I know it is in the Interior mods section somewhere.

Maybe it is just me but I really don't understand the need for "bigger brakes" unless you are installing a S/C and taking it to the track. The stock brakes are more than enough to handle any power added from a CAI/tune.

Your biggest money saver when modding your car is to do the installs yourself.

If it were me.. over-axle mufflers first, then a CAI w/tune.

IMO a 125ft 60-0mph braking distance isn't great-its good but not great. Once you get used to very spirited driving and the bigger brakes (especially on twisty roads) really help and are safer in an emergency situation anyway.

But Woody may want something else for his money...I'd rather have more braking power with less HP than the opposite.

Thats an impressive list. Man, now Im making a list for more stuff to do. You're photos make it look easy. And thats good. Because before without any knowledge of what would need to be done, I wouldn't even want to attempt it.

And if any of you want to help me out with the funds, I run an e-comm site that pays for the car. *wink wink*. Business has been slow, so its barely covering my monthly payments. Just so I'm not considered a spammer, I'll show you my car, and you can figure out the domain name yourself.

But the more that I'm on this forum, the more I want to do. So I think I may ramp up my savings.

Thanks again guys.
