I heard a rumor that the Cobra was going to be released as an '06 model....bumped up from the '07 projection. Has anyone heard anything to confirm this?

Because this is an all new chassis and they will want to make an IRS and who knows what other kinds of modifications to the engine/suspension, it is probably best that the model not be rolled out too quickly, or mistakes can happen like in the '99 Cobra

Plus, I'm sure Ford is trying the wait-and-see approach as well. The new M3 is comming out and the new vette etc. etc. I'm sure Ford will want to get some data on those cars before they one-up them (hopefully).

the concept had IRS so I dont know if the rear is the hold up unless it was the Lincoln IRS.

The new IRS is likely being developed as we speak.

From Motor Trend's one-year test of the '03 Cobra:
"It's fun to drive, and all its failures add to the fun," one logbook entry muses. "Too bad about the price." That parting shot is the cold truth. With so many other performance-car choices in and around the $40K mark, none of us could imagine plunking that much down on this aging racehorse. We look forward to a better all-new Cobra in mid-2005.
Granted, this is from May, and as we know, Motor Trend has been known to make a mistake or exaggeration from time to time (i.e., blue '05 with blue interior).

I think Ford is farther ahead with the Cobra than many of you believe, the concept car was really just a styling exercise, the production car was pretty much done except for minor changes, I saw finished mules 4 months before January. When I talked to the driver of it he said wait a little while I would be pleased, he didnt lead me to believe I would have 2 years, this guy was testing transmissions so he probably knew something about the timetable of the products.

It had a supercharged 4V 4.6 in it though so did they not run the crap out of it at sometime. I am sure they would not build a car that wouldnt handle the motor that is in it.
