I'm getting the 05 becuase I LOVE the way it looks and its only about 70-80 hp off assuming this GT gas 290 rwhp. I'll be slowly and gradualy modding, not overnight, so that i'll be able to keep up and heck maybe even sur[hiney those 07 cobra's. Maybe too wishfull but i'll see what happens when it does. :drive:
One thing a ton of people forget is that N/A 390 horsepower is going to be a slower runner than a SC 390 hp. So to say that the car is only 70-80 HP off is technically correct, but there is a much larger performance gap. So even if the new stang was making 390, chances are it would still be slower then the SVT. Given, the new 3valve has VVT and will get torque more quickly. The Torque and Hp comes on much more quickly in a forced induction car. Granted it can make for difficult launches, but more then make up for it in the run. No one has seen an 05 up against an 03 SVT, but I bet it would blow the 05 away. Just my 2 cents. [/b][/quote]
I don't think your read it the way it was meant to be read. Would I keep it N/A, I don't know yet. It will be gradual mods nothing sudden. So by 07 after all the mods have accumulated who knows how this GT will be running.

There are many factors involved. My N/A 5.0L '95 does a respectable job of keeping up with a stock '03 Cobra in the quarter mile, even though I have 100 less horsepower. Of course, it doesn't hurt that my car weighs 500 pounds less...

Personally I'd like a blown 4.6L 3V, but they aren't going to offer that this year. So instead of getting Yet Another SN95 (I have had five of them so far), which would bore me to tears within days of buying it, I am going to opt for the new GT. When the new Cobra comes out in a few years, I'll probably pick one up, or just slap a Kenne Bell on the GT .

It depends on personal preference... Is Hp more important or looks? -For me I'm choosing looks because I like driving the newest style of a car. To me driving a left over car just does not feel the same...

A lot of us have faced this dilemma. But I choose 05 because as much as I would love (and I mean love) the power, I love the idea of owning a brand new next gen mustang even more.

Design of the 05 beats out the 03 IMO and the increased interior space, improve interior, suspension etc.... will make this a blast to drive.

If it is under-rated and has 280-290rwhp then it wouldn't take much to get it up to the high 300hp range if you so desired.

But like george said, don't drive one (I haven't cause I'm afraid of what I'd do) or look at one for too long because you might get snake bitten especially when the wait is getting long.

P.S. I think the solution to this dilemma for many of us would be a nice SE with a power bump. Com'on Ford!!

Ford has stated that the new Mustang will "Run & Hide, from the 2004 model".
Run and Hide?

I wanted to hear:.... the 05 is so fast that this car will fly into Wednesday leaving the 2004 in Tuesday.

That's gotta be a mistake.

Power and IRS are the main things that the cobra has over the 05.

After having a solid axle for years, test driving the Cobra was fun from a power standpoint, but IRS didn"t impress me... and yes, I took it throught the twisties. I guess I'll have to wait till I take mine to Watkins Glen, NY.

If they would have used the Al block in the 03/04 Cobra, I think the choice between the two cars would be even harder. The weight distribution would have been better, the car would have been even better, I've never had a block problem in my 96..........That being said, my first car was a 70 Mach1 with the 351C-4V 4 speed. When I see that 05 I'm 17 years old again. That does it for me. But I'm going to wait for the new Cobra because that is going to be the baddest Stang ever born.

I'm with you Crazy Horse. I love my 96 Cobra but man I want a the new one. It was like this in 83-84 waiting for the 85 GT. They kept holding it back, driving me crazy. I was at the track with it days after it arrived. I got it Oct. 17 1984. To think that thing was considered fast running a 15.1 at 92 in the 1/4 (stock, but not for long).

I don't even own a current stang. I'm jonesing. I had a '79 turbo cobra when those '85s came out. I wanted one in a big way, but, couldn't afford it. Finally in 1993, I got a new Reef Blue GT. I drove it for 3 years and sold it when I went back to school. The deal was to get a new one when I finished. 6 years, 3 kids and a lot of student loans later, no mustang.

I went to buy an '03 and they wanted 3-5k over sticker. I waited and then they brought out the concept. I decided to wait. It has been hard. esp with all these people ordering thiers.

Like I said before, I would love to have a Cobra, but I do not think I can wait that long! Plus, that 40k price tag is a little too high for me right now.
I am really hoping for some info on another Mach 1.
If I do not hear anything by next June, I am going to just get another GT.
But, I want those 18 inch wheels!! I was going to order my GT this year, but when I found out that those 18 inchers are not going to be an option for at least another 6 months, I am glad I am going to wait!!
I live in Ohio, and it didn't make sense for me to buy a new GT in October, drive it for a month, and then park it till Spring!

Anybody want to take a wild guess at what the % rates are going to be on the new 2005 Stang??
I asked one sales guy, and he guessed around 1.9 - We could only hope!
I think Ford is going to stick it to us!!!
I am going to be pissed, seeing the all the Ford cars and trucks at 0.0 - 1.9 %, and have us Mustang guys stuck at 6%!!!

GTJOHN,

There was a link up here months ago where the Ford guys basically said there would be a favorable interest rate for the car. Don't expect rebates anytime soon though

Galaxie, I hope you are right.
I am not expecting any rebates anyway! I will get a break, when I use the A-Plan.
I really want those 18 inch wheels, so I am thinking I am going to buy this thing between June - September 2005. Had the 18 inch wheels been offered at the start of this program, I would buy the car next spring.
I almost went to order it now, but it would be foolish to buy it in October, and garage it for 5 or 6 months!
Plus, I want to hear about any complaints or recalls. Its always good to wait a year after a new model is introduced. ( Don't know if I can )

I am a quality manager in the automotive industry, and I can tell you, that Chevy is working very hard on correcting some serious issues on the C6 Corvette. They have body panels cracking and trouble with the transmission!! I am glad to see Ford driving these 2005 Stangs around, working out any bugs they might have.

I would have to go for the '03 Cobra and get an '07 SE (if they make it....)

It would really annoy 2005 owners when a '03 Cobra smokes 'em every time

hehe theres always something faster.

Wouldn't tick me off if an 03 Cobra is faster...
It still has a cheaper interior...would be at the time an older generation car with a bunch of parts shoe horned into a 25 year old chassis... and looks are subjective...but more people would love the look of the 05 over the 03.

Even if a Neon smokes a 99 GT, its still a neon right, regardless how fast it is
