Ok I know that vanity plates have been discussed a lot on here before but I need your guys' oppinion, I want my plates to include the "2005" aspect of the car on them but can only fit one number in front of the rest of what I want it to say and still have the rest make sense, so my question is: Is 5------ enough to make sense that I mean 2005, I cant fit 05?

Here is what I would like it to say in its entirity (was just trying to keep the first part simple, but this might help make your decision).

I would like it to say 5FLSHBK and have people know I mean 2005 FlashBack, flashback obviously being a play on words between it being a retro car and also being a fastback, but is a single 5 enough to get the date across, or should I get it and paint on an appostophe in front of the 5 like '5FLSHBK? I know the latter is illegal but I dont know if the cops around here would be a pain about it or not. Or should I just go with FLSHBAK and can the date? My concerns with that is that without the date I think the play on it being a fastback would be lost on most people. I know way too much thought is going into this but I am on my way to order the plates and just want your oppinions on this before I go.

Also is RETROGT already taken in California?

I think anyone who knows anything about cars would understand FLSHBAK. The 5 kinda looks outta place to me and if you put an apostrophe on it you are just giving the police a reason to stop you. I don't think it would be worth the hassle even if you didn't get a ticket for it. Just my thoughts on it.

The "5" without the zero may be ambiguous...if you want ideas:

05FSTBK

05_TSAF ("fast" back(wards))

FASTBLK ("fast" "black"(your color))

In my state the letter "O" and number "0" are the same, leading
to confusion if not placed carefully...

Sorry if I have presumed by suggesting...these just occurred to me

I agree with Tread. The '5' just muddies it up. I think FLSHBK is more than enough to get your point across. Besides, if you could get 05 on there, it'd be a "2005 flashback". You're flashing back to 2005?

so it is clear to all that "flash" is intended, not "flush" nor "flesh"

In my state (Georgia) we submit in writing, and pay up front.

We can have up to six choices on the form, DMV will take the first one
that meets their restrictions and is not already in use...ignoring the rest.

So I always submit six prioritized choices.

GTF=GT Fastback or GT Flashback. It can mean whatever you like it to be. I think it would provide a unique theme for your car. IMO, abbreviations look cheap. A full word or a combination of letters which stand for words are better.

As long as you know what it stands for who cares if others get it or not, unless the important issue here is for others to know what it stands for.

Thanks everyone, I just checked with the DMV online and flashback no mtter how I spelled it was taken, so I went with RTRO GT, suprisingly it only took my second try on that one to get it, RETROGT was taken. I thought flashback would've been easier to get, oh well I like the look of RTRO GT. Thanks again.
