Need some help determining value of 2006 Saleen Extreme
My mom's cousin passed away earlier this year. He has a 2006 Saleen Extreme Coupe garage kept with a little over 4k on it. The car is paid for and in perfect shape. My father and I are trying to help his wife sell it. My father would like to buy the car to keep it in the family since he is a car nut like my mother's cousin, but can only get about $45k together. His wife feels like that would be giving it away (keep in mind it's paid for) for what we can offer and wanted $62k which I said was nuts. I know he paid $76k for the car but it's not going to hold that kind of value being three years old. I feel bad because the dealer took him to the cleaners on the sale. I'm thinking the most they could get is about $55k for it and now that's the price point she is looking at. It seems like I see a lot of high end Mustangs out there for sale but are they really selling at these crazy prices? What do you all think is a fair value for the car in the current market. I have a feeling it's a right person, right price kind of thing. A guy I know who deals in high end Stangs said she probably should have took the $45k from us and run since it would be an easy no fuss sale (She's 72 years old) and we weren't interested in turning the car for more money. Since it's family though my father and I still want to help find a good home for it.

Hey Mike, I just looked on Ebay (its a great judge of the market), and there is a 2006 Extreme Saleen on there now. It jas a B-I-N of $49,900, but also has a reserve on it. Mileage is 21K. I'm guessing the reserve is set somewhere in the mid $45K range. She won't get $55K for it, not for a 2006. Your dad's offer wasn't too low really. I would go back, with the ebay listings to show her what is out there, and what they are going for.

That's what we are going to do. The Ford dealer would buy it back for $50k but I'd rather them not profit again since they got MSRP+Tax on the first sale.

If the Ford dealer will buy it for 50k then I would give her 50k if you want it.
I understand what you mean about not wanting them to profit, but if she can sell it for that money to a dealer I would guess it's worth the 50k.

$45K is a very fair offer. If I were interested I would wait, allow the wife to have the car in the market and go through the experience of selling the car. Also for that amount I would consider a new GT500 as an alternative.
I talked with her son who I believe is around 40 but not a car nut. He is just starting to research prices online. The problem is he'll look on autotrader and see one going for $62k. Then go on eBay and a yellow 06 extreme vert with less miles couldn't even pull in more then $41K on bids. They are in no rush to sell which is a good thing. He's even thinking about taking it out to Cali where he lives to see if it would do better in that market. I'm fine with them testing the market. In fact as it stands now my dad and I are going to take the car up to Carlisle to show it for them. See if it gets any interest up there. I hope if it comes down to $50k from the dealer and $45k from my dad the whole keeping it in the family thing wins out. Trust me if he could pay more he would. It's already $15k over his budget since he was going to get a 08 or 09 GT. Believe it or not my dad isn't a big fan of the GT500 because I've tried to get him to go down that route. There was a 07 white/blue stripes with less then 1K on it going for $39,000 but he didn't bite. Heck I almost did and I'm not a fan of white. lol

There is no doubt the Saleen E is exclusive and unique, but it is not in great demand for the average Mustang buyer. That is a used car only a Saleen fan would buy provided it is exactly what the individual is looking for.
BTW, what's the color combo?

Black on black. I agree with you there is a limited market for the car. You either have the person that is on the fence trying to get a deal and with gas costs and all it makes it tough. Those with money to burn will just buy a new one.

I say if they sell, your dad can get an 08-09GT w/ a whipple, brake upgrade and suspension and still walk away with money left over compared to 45,000, I am not a fan of the 05+ saleen body kit, and the price makes me shy away from them
You know I really didn't think about it that way. That's not a bad idea at all. The only thing he is missing out on is the built bottom end and 6-spd trans. I'm sure he'd be happy with the 450ish rwhp he'd get with the Whipple. It's not like he is thirsty for crazy power and needs the built motor.
