How much air is supposed to be in the stock tires?

I've got stock 18" 'blades. i had the wheels rotated for the first time about a month ago and the car has been all squirrely ever since.

On a hunch that the tire pressure had been f^#*ed with i checked it and all four tires were right at 40lbs.

This seems a bit high to me, as I have always heard around 32-35, but, these stock BFGs are somewhat "low profile" so may be higher is better. I see no recommended presure on the tire, only a "do not exceed 44 lbs" warning. The door sticker says 32 lbs.

I lowered them to 32lbs, but was I right????

Seriously, I need to know.
