Here is what my dealer told me today:

First, there is still not a build date, but he said they moved up the "sold orders" to give higher priority.
He said my car will "definitely" be built, he then said it might be a 2006. I asked when do 2006's production begin, he said they don't know yet. I asked if my price would go up if it's a 2006, he said it shouldn't.
He could not guarantee I'll have it for summer (but it will definitely be built).
I said is it being delayed because it's an X-plan order? He said that makes no difference.

Anyone smell anything fishy? Or is this all true? By the way, it's a very large suburban Detroit dealership, 2 miles from the Flat Rock Plant.

I won't go this summer without a new car. If they think they will sell this to me in fall or in winter, they're sadly mistaken. No way will I wait that long because I won't drive it in the winter. I need a new car this summer, mine is falling apart.

Did he say how many unscheudled orders were in front of you at the dealership? That is what I would be concerned about. Find out who else has an unsched. order at your dealership, and if you are the next one in priority. If not, I would say that you may not get an '05. If you are next to be pulled at that dealer, I would say you're in pretty good shape. As far as 06 production, I think its late summer before that even starts. And I would bet based on info on this site that a price hike is on the way.

All he said were that there were a lot of orders. The fact that he even mentioned '06 leads me to believe it doesn't look very good for me.

I try so hard to buy American, I have had a negative impression about Ford for the last 25 years, when I last owned one. I came back, giving them the benefit of the doubt and reading the stellar reviews on this model, yet, I'm getting screwed.

I'm already looking at alternatives: Charger, Mazda 6, Altima, maybe the new Eclipse which comes out in July. This is B.S. It's so frustrating to see people who ordered a month later receive theirs and to see them all parked by the thousands in the lot near the plant. I'm in Hades.

As I understand it any remaining orders in the database for 05 production get dumped at the MY changover. So the dealership would have to submit new orders for the 06 which makes me think your order is still a piece of paper on a desk (do you have a DORA or VOC????).

If you end up getting an 06 Stang I don't think you'll have it until the end of the Summer or beginning of Fall. I remember reading that the 06's will show up starting mid-September and early October.

Exactly!!! I won't wait for an '06, I'd have to wait months again for good weather! By then, the model would be out nearly 2 years.
Looks like I'll be driving something other than a Ford come the 4th of July. Good riddance if that's the case, I tried. Never again if they let me down this time n-e-v-e-r.

There really is not alternative to a GT Mustang IMHO. I'm not usually a really patient person myself, but the Mustang(V-6 or GT) is a pretty special car and definetly worth waiting for. I know I could. Like some said, look around and maybe you can find one already built. Good luck.

Thanks, yeah, I've been looking. I saw a mg GT on a lot, but it was so far from what I ordered that I didn't consider it for a minute. I know there are no alternatives to the Mustang , I should've wrote "second choice" that'd be more appropriate.

I would start (or continue) scouring local dealers inventory. That seemed to have worked for a lot of us. If you find what you want then you're golden.

I'm in the same boat as you are. Ordered X-Plan and I'm still C&U. My dealership is considered on of the most respected in the area, winning the President's Award for #1 is customer service.

I'm hearing the same song - I know they put all orders in as Priorty 10 and you go from there. They are not sure my 05 order will go through or not, but we agreed to put in another order for a 06 when the order banks open up. Ford messed up, not the dealership - there is not much you can do other then get raped at a dealership that has what your looking for on a lot.

For me, I'm 29 and if I have to wait until Oct to get me car that's fine. I will be moving over the summer so I have enough on my plate the way it is.

All you can do at this point is sit tight ads see what happens!

It's called patience. There's no need to take your frustration out on Ford. They screwed up. Bottom line. Do they think they will care if you decide to go to another company? You're just punishing yourself, bud.

Ford should care if he decides to go with another car. But, you're right, I don't think they do. Ford is selling all they can build to dealers with big allotment, but they don't seem to care much for people ordering from smaller dealers with not so much allocation. But the dealer should also be honest about the order banks and where you stand with your order.

I agree with others, there are still some GTs on lots across the US... I would go that route first.

Funny thing.. this manufacturer loyalty is hilarious. We have owned two Dodges, a Durango, (not a single problem in 3 years of ownership) and now we own a 1500. We had engine trouble within 4 weeks, (a Hemi no less) the lifters snapped. However, once that was taken care of, we are now in the second year of happy 1500 ownership.

I was at my boss's house yesterday, and another agent came over to chat. He starts talking about how he is going to buy a S2000. I snicker. He then asks, "Oh, is that your Mustang out front?" I nod. He laughs, and says, "I hope your saving for all the tranny trouble youre going to have." I say, "second Mustang, first one had no trouble whatsoever, this one zero tranny trouble as well." He says, "I guarantee you will have tranny trouble, EVERY MODEL of EVERY Ford has tranny trouble." I let it go...

I can tell you one thing for sure, EVERY manufacturer has lemons at one point or another. I honestly dont think any of the major manufaturers are crap as a whole. Some of them in my opinion are down right hideous looking, but, with the exception of Yugos, Daewoos, and Daihatsus... its a taste thing.

Note: I owned a Daihatsu, GREAT little car, just dont wreck it... LMAO, owned a Hyundai, two in fact, same thing... Great cars, dont wreck them. I used to kid that they said "Pepsi" under the hood. Drove those things into the GROUND though, not ONE problem. Out of all the manufacturers we have owned, Ford - Probe 95/Mustang99GT/Mustang05GT, Pontiac - GrandAm 88/LeMans 89, Toyota - Tercel 94, Acura - Integra LS 90, Dodge Durango 00/1500 04, Daihatsu Charade 92 Hyundai Excel 87/Sonata 88, Volkswagon Rabbit 72, Honda Civic 88, Chrysler Laser 85, the most trouble I had was with the Pontiacs. Those things were in the shop more than they were out.

Hmm, I wonder if they care about all the other people who left resulting in their loss of market share over the years. The sure as heck better start caring!

You're right, I should just go to a lot and get one, no problem. Don't you think I do that? I've checked every dealer in the area for 2 months. The rare GT's I find on a lot, and I've found 2, are nowhere near what I want. It's amazing how easy the people who have their cars think it is. You got lucky, period.

It still comes down to the dealer. It is amazing how many salespeople and managers do not fully understand the ordering system plus they tend to over-promise customers just to make a sale.
[e.g. tell them what they want to hear]
We are a medium sized dealership and #1 in our Ford Zone in overall sales. As of today we have 5 C/U sold Gt's in the order bank prioritized as to the order date; lowest priority code to oldest order, etc. We also have 4 stock GT's in the order bank with higher priority codes [I doubt we will see any of these]
I still think we will get all the sold orders scheduled before the end of the model year as '05 scheduling goes into August.
Had a Fleet customer of mine ask about ordering a GT Vert the other day. I told him I would love to but I doubt we will have another one to sell this year. He told me that another Ford dealer in our market area told him "no problem" and her would have a car in 6-8 weeks. We have the same Zone Mgr plus his boss has told me tht GT's are so critical. I told my customer that I did not think he would get a car from the other dealer [especially in 6 or so weeks].
We have gone thru this before on Super Duty when they 1st came out, on Excursion when they were 1st introoduced, T-Bird [which ford ****ed up], and now Mustang. Supply and Demand. Some marketing specialist at Ford should be in the unemployment line for underestimating the demand.
I feel for everyone who is waiting [myself included since I forced an order into the system in Aug last year].

Good Luck to everyone waiting!

You are going to run into the same situation with the Charger, especially if you want the SRT8 or Daytona versions.
