Anyone else had their shifter **** come loose and twist around to where all the numbers for the gears were upside down? I guess I smacked 2nd gear too hard when I was giving my gf's sister a ride (in the car) lol, and the **** just kinda came loose and I could turn it all the way around. Maybe I am too hard on it. I put it back to normal and hit the top of the **** and it seems to be sticking in place. I wonder whats up with that?

Happened to me before...and I needed to see a doctor....and a priest....
just pull the boot down off the shifter (it pops right off like a rubber band) and twist the shifter on real tight (it is a tapered plastic sleeve) that should take care of it...
be carefull how hard you yank your **** around....you could cause....impotence

Okay, seriously now, I've had my GT for a week now and just yesterday the shift **** twisted a little, maybe 1/8 of a turn. Moved it back into place and it seems tight enough now but kinda surprised that happened so soon.

Just reminded me of the supposed first "questionable" line ever broadcast on television (from the Leave it to Beaver show):
June Cleaver says, "Ward, you were a little hard on the Beaver last night."

This thread is as funny as that one about the red rubber band somebody found under their hood that when removed, allowed the hood to pop open by itself. Classic!
On a serious note, though: I think the shifter **** can just be unscrewed without any tools at all. At a couple of auto shows, I noticed that the people displaying the Mustangs removed the ***** for fear of them being stolen. Shouldn't Ford install a set screw in the side so they don't rotate?
