no, they have not done anything to just be given a car. EVERYONE, for the most part has graduated from high school, so big deal. They should not be given a brand new car no matter what the circumstances. They should have to work for it, and PAY for it themselves, instead of havin their daddy pay for it because he can.

It really makes me mad when people in high school are just given handouts, it doesnt teach the kid anything about life.

Im only 20 and will soon be the proud owner of a Mustang GT, but guess who's footin the bill, ME. I worked full time throughout high school and still graduated with almost straight A's but i did not expect a hand out for it.
And I salute you for having the savvy and personal wherewithal to pay for the car yourself. Makes you appreciate it more that way too.

You don't teach young people about life by handing them everything on a silver platter. I live in a city where there are too many spoiled Chinese youth whose parents (who came here wealthy from Hong Kong many years ago) buy them brand new M3s so that they can street race them - they all too often kill themselves by wrapping it around a telephone pole, or wipe out an innocent pedestrian on their way straight into a ditch.

I've worked very hard in my life, my Dad bought me a 1985 GrandAm (beater) and I was very happy... I've waited 16 years to buy a Mustang and the 05 is awesome! Believe me, buying it yourself and not worrying about payments is great (I'm guessing this isn't the case if you're in high school). It truely makes all the years of hard work feel like it's worth it. But spending all your money on the car makes it a burden, don't try and keep up with others, living paycheck to paycheck is a bad life lesson to learn!!!

OK so the whole idea of my post was to try and calm people about the mustang problems because I dont want to see anyone miss out on one of the greatest cars because of it... YET I get female doged at for it because my friends have nice cars... like I said ur entitled to you own thoughts but keep them at bay... straight As at our school is a big deal its the hardest school in the south... we produce 25 national merit finalist a year and thats only with 100 students per grade... so straight As is a huge deal... my friend with the toureg got it because his dad owns the volkswagon dealership here... and all my friends have to pay their insurance on their cars... so they have jobs and know the value of a dollar... so dont just jump to conclusions... think about the insurance on an a4 with a 19 year old male!

Wink

Folks, first off lay off the kid. He's just trying to make a point defending the Mustang. Yeah his examples are all VW related but so what, maybe that's all he's experienced so far in life? One time when working for Benz I delivered a new S-class and on delivery, the sunroof broke.. ON DELIVERY. Yeah the client was using it and it just went and died on him. As of late German cars have more problems per 1000 built than Japanese and American. So give the kid a break, you don't know his friends or what they went through. Maybe they were into drugs and were in with the wrong crowd and their parents felt it necessary to make that deal so they'd turn themselves around.. who knows, certainly not you. Now before you jump all over me I agree with you 100% about working for your stuff. My first car at 16 was my dad's old car, a 1979 Datsun 210, mint green with the doors so rotted it had silver duck tape on the bottom holding them together. After 2 mos. it died. One day I shifted into 2nd and the driveshaft fell off and rolled down the hill. I picked it up, put it in the backseat, and pushed the car with a friend back home. I was all excited thinking I'm going to get a new car. My dad said and I quote, "Well son, you've two choices, you can either get a job or, you've two feet." I've paid my own way ever since.

Oh and for the folks pointing to the uneducated posts of some folks here calling into question their spelling.. people in glass houses shouldn't throw stones. "your" and "you're" for one...

Hey blackhat97, I was the ONLY one who said his typing was uneducated. I have no problem being called out, cmon. Simply because of the way he spelled straight. Its not a typo, he spelled it phonetically.

As for my TYPO, it was easy to see it as that, since all I was missing was an E. I type EXTREMELY fast, (90WPM) with inch long fingernails. I proofread, but I am human, and miss things.

Before you go off and talk about my missing apostrophes, I dont use them. Waste of a keystroke in my book. Youll get used to it, I promise.

I personally think his entire form of speech is fairly juvenile, and his age is apparent. There are several other younger guys on here that dont type in that form.

As for everyone jumping down his throat, he could have avoided that simply by stating, "I have several friends who have had (insert car manufacturer here), and these are the types of problems they had."

Finally, NOTE, I AGREED with him. He is absolutely correct in that we cant expect 100% of all manufacturers to have 0 problems with 100% of their models. If you look at the history of EVERY manufacturer, there will be problems with at MINIMUM one model for each, more than likely more than one model.

A couple of quick things here...I don't think that anyone was directing their anger/annoyance AT you, it was more of the shock of a high school student getting a $50K car for getting straight A's. So take the comments in the light that they were given.

As for keeping a board posters thoughts at bay...yes, you're correct about everyone having an opinion, but when you post on a board like this, you're opening yourself up to people that don't agree with you. Just keep that in mind.

Heck, I've been "set straight" on a couple of things here, but I don't take it in a hurtful/harmful way. I think that the people on this website, and I'm speaking generally, have had multiple Mustangs in their lives and have worked hard to purchase them. Hearing something like "My friend was given a Toureag (however you spell that stupid thing)" can get under peoples skin a little.

I know I don't care for it and I won't do that for my children and I'm capable of doing it. But that's my decision and I'll freely tell you I don't agree with their parents, but that's their decision.

YOU, on the other hand, should be darn proud of yourself. Hard work, like working on your Dad's '69 and rebuilding a '68 should be commended. That, I believe, will teach you something about life and money. You'll be a better person for it in the long run, but the same might not be able to be said for your friends.

Lastly....I know you guys have probably seen "Pimp My Ride" once or twice. I appreciate that the show takes peoples junkers and transforms them into rolling light shows and how it shows off what the creators can do. But we were watching it during a break at work and I had a thought....wouldn't it be interesting to see what these cars look like 6-12 months after the work was done? I'd bet that half the stuff that was carefully installed in the cars is broken, in alot of cases. Or the car has been cosmetically beat up....The people that get these cars redone, for the most part, don't come off as people that are into taking care of them.

JessicaRabbitt, I wasn't calling you out. If I was, you'd know as I have no problem being blunt and straightforward. I didn't realize you were the only one to make that point. I believe I read somewhere other folks making similar points.. guess not in this thread.

I know you agreed with him, the point was about bringing attention to what I see as an insignificant point not related to the discussion is all. Ok, so now I know you don't use apostrophes and you dropped an 'e'.

z71mudder199, how long are your fingernails?

PaulF.. I learned how to type with these things, many years ago. I actually type with the NAIL, and not my fingertips. In fact the only time I actually touch the keys is when I remove the nails for whatever reason.

When I worked in the corporate world, my co-workers could tell I had gotten to my desk because they could hear the "clickety clack" of my nails on the keys. Friends and family still sit and watch me type, especially when chatting in IM.

I watch PMR all the time, some of the times I love what they do to the cars. Most of the time, I think it is way too overdone. I mean, who needs plasma screen TVs, with playstations in their trunks? I think my favorite one was the young man who had had a kidney transplant, and they installed a camel back on the driver seat so he could have his water. That was very cool, and that kid seemed to be the kind who would take care of his pimped out ride.

JessicaRabbitt, I saw that episode with the water bottle built into his seat. Great episode and agreed, he definately would take care of his ride.. how bad was that car before they got to it? Man, they did a great job.. I agree with you too that the plasma and PS2 are overdone. It's a car not a living room. Recently my phone finally died after 3 years and when I went to replace it of course it wasn't available. So now I have a camera phone with video and sound etc so on and so on.. all I wanted was a phone that makes phone calls but I guess they don't make those anymore.

Oh yeah, don't get me wrong, there are definately some people on there that are really thankful and deserving. I don't really watch the show that much, mainly because I cringe when then "transform" some of these cars and trucks.

I mean, who needs plasma screen TVs, with playstations in their trunks?
I just had this conversation with a couple of guys I work with the other night. The response I get was that kids today are always out and doing "extreme" stuff, so having that in the back of their cars makes sense. So that's why they just put 9 televisions in the floor of that truck? I personally liked the time they put an electronic drum set in the trunk of a guys Caddy. (Actually, the way they engineered it in such a tight space WAS very cool, with the 1" of clearance they had left when it swung out, but again....WHY?)

Anyway....I'd just hate to be one of those kids and get into a semi-serious accident. I can't imagine that any insurance company would cover a plasma screen television mounted in the trunk.

Imagine this conversation with your kid...."Mom, Dad! I got into an accident and my plasma screen is broken!"
