1st major mod
Wheels came in on thursday from CJ Pony Parts. Got the tires mounted on friday at Transwheel. Picked up after work on friday and mounted on car saturday morning.
The wheels are FRPP '04 Mach1's, 17x8, 30mm offset, don't know the backspacing. The tires are 255/50/17 Fuzion Zri's. I measured the distance from the sidewall of the tire to the vertical edge of the fender lip, stock was 1 and 1/16", new is 1/16" (1"farther out). The 30mm offset put the tires almost exactly parallel to the fender lip. I am going for a more retro look on my car. I think the "04 Machs are a decent compromise between the older true Magnum 500's and a lot of the newer style wheels that are around. I thought about going with 18" Machs, but I figured these are fine, the money saved can be put to better use for other mods

The grip on these tires is awsome! I notice not much more tread noise than stock, even though these have a much more aggressive tread pattern. The only thing that I have noticed is that you tend to hear more pops and snaps as you run over lines and cracks in the road, not much and not loud, I just didn't seem to hear it as much with the stock tires. I guess it is because the tires are wider and flatter than stock.

I think they fill out the wells nicely. Gives the car a 2" wider stance because of the wheels, plus each tire is 3/4" wider than stock, so cornering should be better as well.
After looking at it for a couple of days now, I'm pretty sure my next mod is going to be a set of Steeda springs to drop it about 1", and maybe only in the rear. Let me know what you think.

I've included a few small pics here, many more can be found in my Fuzion gallery.
Hope you like
jeff

Those look great. I want to get rid of my upgrade wheels. I plan on the Bullits, unless something else comes along!

A - more SIDE shots!!!

B - I am very picky about the wheels I think look good on this car...... that is the best new wheel/tire combo I have seen in a WHILE - MAN that is hot.

If I was sticking with 17s, I would have to copy you in a heartbeat. VERY nice....

I ordered an 05 that will be here in August / September. I am having trouble trying to decide on a set of wheels for my new mustang. This thread helps alot. Thanks for posting the pics!

18's or 19's???? Anyone having trouble with clearance on the 19's?

No matter what wheel / tire combo I come up with, I am gonna lower the car at least an inch all around.

You can go all the way to at least 22 and still keep the same rolling diameter. Just remember the less rubber you have the more expensive it will be.

Jeff,

You said that your thinking of kinda making a Mach1 clone. I was wondering if you were planning on maybe getting a shaker hood. There are some aftermarket places that offer kits for this and I think they look pretty darn cool.

Below I've posted an example of an aftermarket cmpany that has created a shaker system for the '05 Mustang:

Thanks seth,
I have seen that and it is very nice and would look good. But $800 bucks for a scoop is a bit much for my blood! Not to mention having to cut and possibly repaint your stock hood. If you want the scoop and the pre-cut hood from CDC, it's like $1,500.00 plus paint. I plan to go with an original '69-'70 Cobra Jet or Boss style bolt-on scoop plus the black-out on the hood and deck-lid.
