Vettes get great gas milage. On the highway they approach 30mpg.

 

For what it's worth, most, if not all of the plastic products we use also begin their life as petroleum, so expect their prices to go through the roof if the doomsayers are correct. There are some legitimate scientists who argue that the earth (through the continuing decomposition and compression of dead critters) is still to producing huge amounts of petroleum. I'm not worried about us running out of oil. The $5.00 gallon of gas is going to come from unscrupulous government and oil company executives, not shortages of oil.

I was going to mention that. That little inventions known as "plastics" and petro-chemicals (fertilizers/pesticides anyone?) would impact you more in the pocket book more than filling your car should gas go to $5/gallon.

And no, a flash will not improve you mileage enough to make a difference. You want to help the enviroment? Live closer to work and ride a bicycle. <_<

 

Thanks for the many great points, this is embarrassing, but my brother thinks the Mustang is the worst because it’s for the “masses�, and it offers a false hope and sense of freedom and fun and then corporate America this and corporate America that. He hates how they are fooling us to want a Mustang when others are getting kill for oil.

No, he doesn’t ride a bike and has a Jeep (“it’s more useful than a frivolous Mustang, you know more utilitarian�). I often commute by bike 25 miles each way in the summer but it’s because I love to ride. Oh well, I love him anyways. He forgets how he got me my first book about race cars that featured Mustangs and Cobras and GT40’s almost 40 years ago.

My poor Mom just shakes her head and wonders.

I love people that say stuff about the stang when it comes to "gas guzzler". Tell them to take a 6 cyl Jeep liberty out for a bit. I only got 14mpg in mine and get 22-24mpg in my Mustang GT.

Flashing the computer brought my mileage up from 18mpg to 22-24mpg. I'd say that is a good difference

 

When you say Jeep, do you mean a Jeep Wrangler, not sure how that is more useful than a Mustang, perhaps to take off road and to tow a trailer, but thats about it, a Mustang has much more storage space and is more practical than a Jeep in my opinion.

Face it, "the masses" are buying SUVs and pickups, not Mustangs. Econoline vans and Rangers also sold more units than Mustangs (171,017 and 156,322)

 

Color me impressed. That's more a jump than I've seen anybody mention before.

From Edmunds.com, the Manual 2.4L 4cyl Jeep has 18/21 mpg and the manual 4.0L 6cyl Jeep has 15/19 mpg.

Compare that to the Mustang where its 19/28 for the V6 and 17/25 for the GT. Both of which, beat the Jeep in mpg.

Utilitarian? Unless he drives off-road and mountain passes everyday, he has no reason to call it "more" utilitarian.

He's a hypocrit.

 

I said Jeep Liberty and was only commenting on the fact that people who say "mustangs should be off the road because they are gas guzzlers" obviously have not been in an SUV, not even a small one like the Jeep LIBERTY

Lets not forget that alcohol based fuels can run internal combustion engines just fine. The fuel is derived from corn, not petrolium. Conversion to this fuel isn't that complicated. Oil companies don't want to price themselves out of buisness.

Lots of petrolium based products can be made using alternative sources, just petrolium is a cheaper to process. But if it becomes unprofitable to use oil by products, the world will not stop, it will just convert.

Your brothers Jeep probably belches out more green house gasses than the new Mustangs and gets same or worse MPG.

I don't even want to touch the "people are dying for oil" thing.

I'm trading a Liberty in for the Mustang. It's been a fine vehicle... but nothing to write home about when it comes to MPG. Good to see I'll be doing better with the GT!

It's a term that basically means the same thing as liberal but without the stigma Republicans have associated with the word. Both mean progress is good. Now to the corvette mpg, that is amazing, 30 mpg on the highway. You learn something new every day.

 

Oh, and the soup is Progresso. They have a wonderful beef stew.

 

Corvettes get amazing mpg for their engine size. EPA says the C6 18/26 gets and the C5 gets 19/28 but I have a buddy who gets more than that!

Jeep Liberty gets a whopping 17/22. <_<
