Mustang sold from under me?
Hi,
I don't remember where I read about this before (and I can't find anything in search) - but if I have a signed bill of sale with the dealership for a factory-ordered Mustang, can the dealership sell it from under me? I mean, when it comes in, can it legally be sold to a person offering a higher price for it?? I'm worried because I got my Mustang for $2,400 under invoice.
TIA

If you have a signed purchase agreement, or buyers order, with your signature and a dealership's signature on it, then they cannot sell it from under you. I have a question though. Did you leave a deposit, when you ordered the car? If you did, then they definitely can't do it. But as long as you have a signed buyers order, they really sell it from under you.
The best thing to do, is have them add the VIN # to the signed order, when you get it assigned to the car. This way, there isn't any way they can back out of it. Hope this helps.

Thanks Jeff!
I did leave a $500 deposit, and I have a "Retail Buyers Order" with my and the dealership's president's/owner's signature. I know I have a VIN assigned - so I should get that added to the Retail Buyers Order copy that I have?

Without the VIN listed on the bill of sale it'll be somewhat difficult to prove that the car being sold was yours. If, on the other hand, the dealership adds the VIN to the bill of sale then there's its much more difficult for them to legally sell the car to someone else unless your financing falls through; or you and the dealer come to an agreement to terminate the agreement.

May I ask way you're worried about "this"? There are enough 07s out there now that I can't see a dealership screwing you like that... Stranger things have happen, but I don't think that you'll have anything to worry about.

I'm worried because I thought I got a very good price ($2400 under invoice) and I don't want the dealership to sell it to someone who comes in and offers, let's say, $500 over invoice!

Are you sure you mean $2400 under invoice or 2400 under sticker? $2400 under invoice is virtually unattainable without cash back, even with A/Z plan.

It's possible. http://forums.bradbarnett.net/showth...rd+san+antonio. Usually, as in the above link, it's on a single car that may be sitting on the lot for a while or has less popular options or colors. e.g. screaming yellow automatic (as was the case in the link).

For example, my 2007 Mustang GT breaks down like this:
Sticker: 29,500
Invoice: 27,500
A-plan: 26,400
That price is before any incentives (which there only is $500 or financing from Ford Credit). I just want to know how it is possible to get a 2007 Mustang for $2400 under invoice even with the $500 cash. It's just not possible without using a trade in or down payment.

Actually, no. There is more than a $1,000 in markup on a loaded V6 Coupe. More like $1,500 or so (without me looking it up). I'm with James. I'd love to know why they are selling a V6 that far under invoice (if they are).

I just priced out his car on forddirect.com
His MSRP came out (like he said) at $24,495
Invoice was listed as $22,995
So according to this, he got it for $1400 under invoice.
Maybe they are planning to surprise him with some huge documentation and advertising fees.

That's what I'm thinking. Plus give him the "hard sell" on undercoating, VIN window etching, etc. Stick to your guns, man!

I could possible see your concern with a GT but with a V6 you should have absolutly nothing to worry about.
The 6s really only had a bad mark-op in 05. Now you can find them all over the place. I went past a dealer a couple of days ago and they had at least 20 of them.
So worry about other things. Like were do you get all the money for the mods when it gets here.
