Mustang Sales for April - Wow!

Ford's April Sales Slide on SUV Weakness - However -
The Mustang continued its pace with sales of 19,559 -- the highest April sales for the car since 1980, Ford said.
"Right now, the only thing keeping Mustang at bay is lack of inventory,"
said Steve Lyons, Ford's vice president for North American marketing, sales and service. He estimated Ford dealers had fewer than 13,000 Mustangs in stock at the end of April.

There are about 50 of them on the lot at Brandon Ford. Probably a 4-1 V6 to GT ratio. Plus they have another group in another storage lot.
They also have some very nice looking 2005 and 2004 Roushes on the lot, including about 6 of the 2004 440A's, of which there were only 40 made and 39 left since one went to heaven.

Lately there is an impressive shortage of mustangs for sale around here. I guess spring sprung. During the winter it was pick and choose.

Ok...this is just MESSED UP!!! The following quote is rumor from another board:
Apparently Mustang availability came up at a recent dealer's meeting, and from the looks of things, Ford isn't exactly poised to dramatically "ramp-up" GT production any time soon. It seems the feeling within certain Ford circles is that the current GT supply situation is good for FoMoCo and their dealers, creating a premium price point for the car, and no need to offer factory incentives to move inventory. Additionally, the feeling within the company is that the shortage of GT's is not really driving customer's away from Ford -- it's merely driving them into V6 Mustang's instead!

I am not really sure the long term demand is there. Sure there are lots of GT buyers right now. I think one of the main reasons is the new body. This demand would not be there if this year was a continuation of the 2004 model. After the new body is on the street a little more, I think the demand will coincide with the supply.
Right now, they can push the current demand onto a 2006 model. Why make more of a car, then have to offer incentives to sell them.

I PMd you their number. They also have a website you can use to get ahold of them for info. I was there last night - LOTS of Mustangs - probably 80 on the lot including the 04 Special Editions, Cobras, and 05 Roushes. They have a stage 2 Roush on display, but I don't think it is for sale. Could be wrong on that though, it has a tag that says demo on it.

I realize it isn't good news for people trying to buy a Mustang, but Ford needs the addtional revenue if they are going to make it in the long run. The Mustang isn't a bad deal at MSRP, and if people consistently purchase them for less, the that directly reduces their resale value. Ford & GM need more financial winners. When was the last time you saw a Mustang for sale without incentives?

The key metric for Ford is how many NEW buyers the '05 Mustang is attracting to Ford products.
Those April mustang figures may look great, but if most of it is comprised of repeat Mustang buyers, such as myself...then it could be bittersweet...especially in the long term as mentioned in another post.
The stated aim of the '05 is to get younger customers into a Mustang, and then hope they trade up to more premium Fords. If the '05 Mustang is not attracting a new breed of buyers...then Ford is in real trouble.
There are those of us here on this board that think the future is not bright for Ford due to certain cost cutting, performance sacrificing design decisions that Ford made with the '05 Mustang.
