Mustang Interior Observation....

hello all..

i love my mustang interior.

Its clean, easy...no frills and all the unnecessary tech stuff that MOST people do not need.

I was looking at 993 and 996 Porsche 911's about 2 years ago and let me say that those cars were about $80K range and this Mustang interior is SO much nicer!!!!!

thanks all !

Are you on something ?

The flat black, plastic interior along with not being able to see the dash gauges during the day has been a major source of complaints from many different sources, Ford has agreed and stated the interior will get a major review during the next upgrade of the Mustang.

But here again beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

yes completely.

the 993 is much much worse than the New stangs..

the 996 911's are worse...very very basic....

so, i personally dont know why auto critics trash on the mustang interior.

i like it a lot

nope. (t town bobby)
im not on anything. well, not TONIGHT
i heavily shopped for a 933 and 997 porsche a while ago. decided it against it...

i personally like the interior of the stang better....

and true...beauty in the eye of the beholder.

now the new 997 porsche blows the mustang interior away unfortunately.

but then again the 997 porsche is about $100k

The 993 and 996 Porsche interiors were pretty cheap back then. A lot of people who bought them complained about the cheapness. The plastic buttons had a tendency to break and the leather would sometimes crack after a few years if you didn't take care of it. In the late 90's and early 00's Porsche were so concerned about their engines and suspensions that they didn't have time to care about interior problems.

I have to agree. The S197 Mustang interior is far superior to those Porsche interiors. But, up against a new 997 interior the Mustang has some catching up to do.

All he said was that the S197 has a nice looking no-frills "driver's car" interior. It's nice to see that somebody gets it.

This is the first I've heard of anyone "not being able to see the dash gauges during the day". Got any references to back up that claim? I don't have any problem seeing the gauges.

And what's wrong with flat black plastic? It's better than fake wood grain.

hi little black pony,

glad we agree!

i guess my point is that why they are so harsh on mustang interior when a recent past 911 porsche didn't really get any harsh new on its interior....

And the mustang is in the $25K+ range....

so...i love the interior!

The Flat black interior on the Mustang is super nice.

Did you know one of the reasons Porsche switched from using glossy black plastic buttons on it's 996 and Boxster models to flat black trim pieces is cos customer surveys said that flat black items looked classy while glossy plastic looked cheap. Which is ironic cos it actually cost more to produce a glossy plastic surface than a flat surface one.

Can't see... Huh? Unless you are driving with your lights on and the guage brightness turned down to nothing then yeah you will have some problems, but 99.9% of the time I can see the guages just fine during the day.

I have no problems seeing the instrumentation day or night. I only wish the tach and speedo were switched so it followed the 67-68 that they were based on.

The only other complaint I have on the interior as far as looks is I wish there were more leather/vinyl accents instead of just plastic. As far as the styling I think it's top notch.

The gauges are light up by white LEDs during the day. I have no trouble seeing the gauges or instrumentation in the day or night.

I like the no-frills but functional interior. If you want to see a tacky no-frills but also useless interior, look at the Crown Vic:

fake wood grain applique
no tach before 2006
no floor shifter unless it is the LX Sport
split bench seats (CVPI and LX Sport get bench seats)

GM cars have very fancy interiors but people seem to switch GM throw-away cars every 3-5 years, I wonder why

Sources to the complaints????
I've had my car a little over two years and I've NEVER had a problem reading my gauges day or night.

And YES, I'm happy with everything about the car.

Some people just like to complain. This cars performance puts it in a catagory with a lot more expensive cars to compare it to. So, it gets compared to cars with price tags 10's of thousands of dollars higher... by comparison, the interior SHOULDN'T be as luxurious.

That, and don't believe a word that gets printed in that worthless rag of a magazine that I wouldn't even keep near the crapper, Consumer Reports. CR does NOT count as a 'source' to cite.

I think the premier trim package (if that's what it's called) with the covered and stitched dash panel, console cover and arm rests adds a lot - looks real nice in dark charcoal leather and gray dash panel.

Just my two cents, YMMV.
