isn't that just great. i should have waited a year and bought a 2008 with a hurricane motor. It sounds like the 2008's will get the GT500 wheels, frontend and rearend. The bullitt is not impressive. I think the real story is the hurricane motor in the 08s.

 

Funny....my wife just told me she wouldn't buy any parts for my 05 for Christmas cause she knew I'd want another one when the HP goes up.

Yeah - she is right again. I'm going to be at the dealer next summer when the order banks for those 08's opens up.

I figure if it is the "tuned-down" BOSS engine, getting it back up to 425+ won't be too hard.

That's both good and bad news.
Good news because we get two new reincarnations of some of Mustang's iconic models in the same year. Bad news because one seems to be just another appearance package (with propably light performance mods like the GT-H) and the other (even though a true performance model) will be even more limited in production numbers than the GT500.
That being said, I wouldn't be surprised to see Ford asking $33K for the Bullitt and $37K for the Boss (and that's just MSRP, the thought of ADMs on these two makes me cringe already!).

One this is for sure though: I'm definitely buying the Bullitt front grille!

 

Just buy the basic 08 GT, it'll have basically the same engine as the BOSS, and with bolt-ons you'll probably get back up and over 400 easily.

If they are only making 1,000 BOSS's then $37-40k is probably about right, until the ADMs......

 

I just got mine today too, I also got the Jan. '07 issue too, I wonder if they were backed up or something and had December's delayed?

I love the article on why the Mustang is making things tough for Chevy and Dodge. If Chevy doesn't get their act together with this new Camaro, it will end up just like the old one. (no cost efficient version that also is appealing to buyers)

And I kinda figured Dodge was just temporarily trying to get in on the retro thing, so no big suprise that they aren't going to offer a base model, because they probably wouldn't need it for how long they will produce the Challenger.

 

Just as well. They'd never be able to move that gajillion pound barge with a V6 engine anyway.

I'll let the early adopters of the Hurricane/Boss engine beta test the motor Ford and first year releases have not historically fared well.

If you read between the lines in the article:
1). They claim that the Bullitt and the Boss will join the Shelby GT for 2007. Unless they extend the 2007 MY, they'd have to squeeze in all 3 special editions within 3-4 months before they stop taking orders for the 2007s and pump out 2008s.
2). The "Hurricane" moniker was supposedly removed due to the effects of Hurricane Katrina, and replaced by the Boss name.
3). Only 1000 of the Boss's are supposed to be released. Good luck getting one at MSRP. Look at how crazy the GT500s were marked up and they are supposed to have 8k-10k annual production figures. If the article is accurate, we are looking at only 1000 Boss units available within a few months (perhaps a quarter of the year). Some GT500s can be bought now for only $10k over MSRP, almost half a year from when they first debuted. A factory naturally aspirated 425-435 hp Boss 302 Mustang will probably net just as much over MSRP, if not more.
4). Past info indicates a major facelift for the 2009 MY, with a redesign for the 2010 MY. In fact, a lot of info indicates major re-designs for almost all of Ford's platforms for the 2010 MY.

 

Looks good, can't wait to see a Boss in person. Someone said above that the boss would be hard to get like the GT500...I agree.......Who says the economy is not that great????......People are paying 60-70K for the GT500 and will continue to pay ADM's for Boss, Camaro, and Challenger.......Let the good times roll!!!!!!!!!!!

They talk about the 302 BOSS engine that was at SEMA being in the 2008.
its a pushrod 302 named 'the boss'..crate motor.

The REAL "BOSS" monikered engines won't be in the car till the redesign...

 

I won't be surprised in the least if Chevy and Dodge wind up S-canning the IRS on their cars... otherwise they won't be around very long, IMO. If they can't compete cost wise, especially with a 400hp-ish GT coming in the next couple of years, they're not going to take much of the market share.
They're experiencing the same problems Ford had... and we all know how that turned out.

 

The new BOSS modular engine will be a 6.2L and used in the F150 trucks first.

If there is a limited production "BOSS 302" it will probably be built by Saleen and marketed through Ford dealers like the new Shelby GT. (using a Saleen stoked 4.6)

Could the new modular BOSS be used in the present Mustang? Maybe.... but will probably depend on what happens with the Challenger and Camaro and not until the last year before the redesign.

+1 I couldn't agree more about the bullitt... the boss does look tough.. but with a lack of sound deadening materials, just imagine the exhaust drone. (not that I would mind)

 

Total . I've voiced my opinion on this article before but to put it plainley; Ford cannot put a "slightly detuned" version of a motor capable of 435hp with just 5.0l naturally aspirated in the GT. It's ridiculous, such a motor would have to rev at least 8k and be built like a brick *hit house, 2 things that mean Ford can never put it into a $25k car. Remember this is NOT A RACE MOTOR, it will have to develop 435hp ("detuned" to 400) on 91 octane for 150000 miles . I won't even get into the liability issues that obviate the possibility of Ford selling a "light" 400hp live axle coupe to the mass American public. Ie, no live axle 400hp GT, ever. Motor Trend is entirely talking out of their asses.

 

Bullitt and Boss will both be stripped of GT luxury features. Fogs, sound deadening material "stripped down interior". And then they will jack up the price through the roof.......And all of us who will be close to having our 05-07 GT's payed off will trade them in for......stripped down versions of what we pretty much already own.....what gives????

 

425-435 hp is crazy. If anything, I'd say 340-350 hp with the 5.0, then 375-400 hp w/ the 5.8, and 425-475 hp w/ the 6.2.

Ford isn't dumb enough to jack up the horsepower too much in one model year, because it'd raise the bar too high for the next revision.

And Ford does not build production based Speciality cars with a production run of 1000 units. They had to farm out the Shelby GT and that car has nothing that can't be bought over the counter now.
