Motor Trend Oil Filter!?!
Yeah, Motor Trend, not Motorcraft?!? I didn't realize my mag subscription was helping pay for performance oil filters! I was at Jiffy Lube yesterday, and the tech was talking them up, had a big poster behind the counter. They look pretty soild, based on their own hype. Good for full synthetic oil and all.
Has anyone heard of them, have any info on them, are they just rebadged from someone else??? They cost about $10 I think.

After seeing this report, I would not trust anything about Jiffy Lube !!

There are only a few plants that make filters. They will just put whomever contracts them to build the part's name on it. Sad Motor Trend is having filters made. They should be unbiased but I guess thats not the case anyway.

I still go to Jiffy Lube. Too **** conveinent not to, but I'm never more than 5' from the front of the car. I see EVERYTHING they do. I can see how tight they get the drain plug. I know how many qts of Mobil1 they are cracking open. I see the filter being removed, tossed, and a new one going on. I'm practically doing it all w/o getting my hands dirty. Plus the interior gets cleaned, tire pressure checked, but I tell them how much air to put in the.
But that's the ONLY thing I have them do, is oil changes. At least he didn't ask to change the air filter (C&L CAI). He wanted to do the fuel filter, said no thanks, got one at home. I told him the car had a cabin air filter, which he didn't know about, then asked if he could change it. Again no thanks, got one at home.
I don't give them the opportunity to scam me. Works for me!

All that said, I'm probably going to start donig my own oil changes. I mean, I'm willing to install LT headers on my own, but don't change my own oil...just doesn't make sense.
With ramps, is just too easy. Ford did such a nice job w/ the positioning of the filter and that downward angle it sits at is ingenious. I just don't look fwd to disposing of the old oil.
Anyway, I digress. What's up with the MOTOR TREND oil filter?!?

Some random info:
Someone on "Bob Is The Oil Guy" site seems to think they are the same as "Purolator Plus" filters.
What is the difference between Conventional Filters & High Performance?
The Motor Trend High Performance Filter uses only the finest materials available in it's construction to maximize the Filtration Process and Protection of your engine. Safeguard your vehicle against harsh driving conditions, stop-and-go driving, heavy traffic and extreme climatic changes with a Motor Trend oil filter. Research has shown that, just like conventional motor oil, conventional oil filters break down. Use Motor Trend High Performance filters-your best choice for extra engine protection.
High Performance Oil Filters Provide you the following Benefits:
* Superior Protection compared to Conventional Oil Filters
* Improved High and Low Temp Performance
* Improved Engine Protection against Sludge & Harmful Dirt Deposits
* Best Filter Choice in Severe Driving Conditions
STEEL CENTER TUBE & END CAPS
Spiral steel center tube with perforations allow for maximum oil flow through. Steel end caps give filter element extra support during pressure surges.
SUPERIOR FILTRATION MEDIA
Special high-performance filtration media provides the best particle retention, efficiency and lifetime to maximize the filtration process in today’s driving conditions.
SILICON ANTI-DRAIN BACK VALVE
Silicon holds its shape for better engine oil retention. This feature prevents “dry-starts” and premature engine wear. Conventional rubber can deteriorate under varying temperatures while silicon maintains it’s integrity for a leak-free seal.
SPECIAL SEALING GASKET
Tolerant material that conforms better to metal surfaces in all conditions to maintain superior sealing capability. Will not swell in high operating temperatures, or retract in lower. Improved durability & torque retention gives you the best seal.

Never heard or seen the Motor Trend filter.
I currently have the Mobil 1 filter.
The line of Mobil 1 oil filters are made by Champion Laboratories'.
And, just for the record, Purolator makes Ford Racing and Ford Motorcraft, Fram makes their own, Affinia Group Inc makes Wix, and Clarcor Corp. makes Hastings.
So, is the Mobil 1 oil filter the best filter out there for our Mustangs? Of course not! Is it a 'better than average' filter that does an adequate job at filtering particles down to 10 microns? Absolutely!
btw- With all that said, I have a Ford Racing oil filter ready to go for my next oil change.

Here ya go! CM-6731-FL820
Which outfit are you going to buy this from, any idea or have you already bought it, if so where?
Even though Purolator manufactures several of the re-badged filters, they are not constructed the same. At a cost saving, some are assembled with cheaper components.

Both filters look similar, the FR one looks like it has a little more filter media, and a silicone rubber gasket vs. a nitrile rubber gasket. Not sure if the nitrile is bad though, I just don't know.
I know this is an old post but found it when looking for pics of lowes black mustang. her is some more reading on oil filter
