Motor Trend 2005 Car of the year...
#23
I personally think the Chrystler 300 is a fantastic car, although more for the 40 or 50 year old corporate fat cat more then the crowd on this board that yearns for the Mustang. I love the 300 and would buy one if it was 30k+ and I didn't love the 05 Mustang so much.
Infact of the 300's I've seen around my neck of the woods I have yet to see someone under 50 or so driving one.
I do love the styling of the 300... It reminds me of something Capone would drive around in back in the mobster era.

The link describes how they select contenders for the award: "only new or substantially revised cars are considered."
I always found Motor Trend's COY award misleading to its audience and to the general public. Advertisements for the winner will likely mention it for years to come until it's ingrained in the public's mind that it's the best of the best. The award should be named Motor Trend New Car of the Year. Their criteria for selecting a winner in the COY award is "The car that makes the most advances in its class," not "The best or most popular," as the title suggests.
This criterion will prevent any car from winning two years in a row. Also, if a contender didn't win this time, it probably won't be considered again unless it's revised. And when it is, it will have to be significant. So, too bad, but I'm afraid the Mustang won't have another shot until there's a new one.
Guys, the award only means the 300c made a bigger leap forward than other new cars. Otherwise, it doesn't mean s**t.

...but seriously, I love the 300, but it's no "Car of the Year" IMO. I don't like that you have to pay 35K to get decent power though...

All what matters is what we, mustang enthusiasts think about in our car. If the majority of people love it then it is a winner for us.

Just go out and get a pin stripe suit with a hat you've seen in the mobster movies and you can go out and roll and feel like a badazz mobster .
It would wear after awhile, but it's pretty cool out of the gate!

I thought that the COY award was only award to cars that have been out for so many months...since the 300 was out for the 2004 MY doesn't that affect the outcome? Maybe the Mustang will win next year

While I am sorely disappointed the Mustang didn't win the award, the 300 is a great choice. It took Benz to take an American company and re-introduce a truly American sedan...V8, rear wheel drive, dramatic, if polarizing, styling. Something that Honda/Toyota/Nissan have absolutely no answer for, and something Ford should have paid closer attention to when introducing the vanilla Five Hundred.
I suspect when the issue hits the newsstands we'll see just how close the voting was in a great year for American cars. Hey, Ford took two outta three with th F-150 and Land Rover LR3.

I8URVTEC I can assure you people stop you with this car. I have the 300C since April 9th and will receive my 05 GT any day now. I got stopped all the time and complimented. People would follow me. People did track the car carriers. The 300C has web sites like the Mustang. It is the exact same experience except the 300C is about 6-8 months ahead of where the Mustang is because of an earlier release. Yes they had thousands of preorderes and in the first six months sold 110,000 units. It will be very simular to the Mustang. These are just the facts not biased because I own both.

Still wouldn't pick one over a Mustang even if they were priced the same. Only plus with that car is, that it's available from retailers here. See, Chrysler has a different strategy...you hear that, FORD?!

i dont think the 300 is a bad car. the only one that really looks good is the C b/c of the wheels and chrome and V8. and im glad someone is going away from v6 front drivers. wish ford would atleast get it right and release the 500 w/ the 250hp 3.5v6. but the mustang and vette definitely inspire more. i mean who grows up wishing they could drive a 300? most people want a mustang or a vette

I don't think its fair to crap the 300c, it’s really an amazing piece of machinery. Chrysler did a wonderful job with it.
In fact the 300c is doing SO well, there is talk at Chrysler to add a second assembly line.

I haven't heard any stories of people following trucks of 300s to Chrysler dealerships or of 300s causing accidents because people were staring at them and not paying attention to the road like I have with the new Mustang.
