Most Mustang horsepower for the dollar article.....
Not sure if this has been posted elsewhere but I read this article in Motortrend and found it here online. It compares a stock GT, Shelby, Saleen, and Roush. The reason I am posting is because one poster wondered what is the best to buy with all the different stylings out there (see post link below). This might give some insight.

Granted, if you got the money, get the one you truly want. The stock GT is the best bang for the buck base on the story but not everyone has the time to then upgrade it to more powerful standards. On the other hand, some love to do the work themselves, so you will save the premium cost by doing it yourself. Plus the article has interesting info on Shelby, Saleen, and Roush. Judge for yourself and enjoy the article.

the best hp per dollar stock is the GT of course. The GT500 would be pretty darn close or better if you fully load both cars.
per additional hp is cheaper on the GT500 but the GT would still win again in overal cost per hp. seeing as you could build a 1000hp engine for the gt for 20k and it would almost match overall price of stock gt500 and have double the hp.

i realize I'm biased, but I think the S197 is quite possibly the best muscle car ever, it may not be the best in one category, but it does so many things well, in addition to being affordable and accessible
I agree best muscle car of my lifetime (that includes the muscle car heyday of the 60's)...
And with the economy, volatile world fuel market, ever more stringent government emissions and mileage standards and increasingly more pressure to move private transportation away from gas and diesel, likely the last of the great petroleum powered muscle cars.

Karman: I guess we think alike! I have cloth seats and didn't order the IUP. I figure the leather would be heavier than the cloth.
The S197 Mustang is the best looking and performing Mustang since the '69/'70 Mach 1 and Boss versions and IMO the best modern musclecar period. If it wasn't for the '05 redesign I would be hanging out on the C5 Vette forums looking for a low mileage '02-'04 Z06 or on the Turbo Buick forums looking for a mint '87 GN.

ScaRY isn't it.
I just dislike leather, but I do like the IUP. (IUP can't add much weight
Of course, since I ordered mine there is no spoiler.
Oh heck, I drained my window washer tank when I put on the strut brace.
I also love Crown Vics. (I almost bought a Grand Marquis this year)

I would like to have another GN someday but I will be keeping the '07. I am not all that thrilled with the new Camaro, Challenger, or '10 Mustang pics I have seen recently. The garage is **** near full as it is. I don't want to sell the Chevelle and I will never sell the GSX. Low mileage, matching numbers, low production original 70's musclecars are almost impossible to buy nowadays. The '07 will be as close to a '69/'70 Mach 1 I will ever get with the same power and twice the gas mileage.

thanks for finding that article starfleet. I have been looking for it..
can't beat a S197 for all around performance. You will see in the future. It will go down as one of Fords best cars.. I know its the best car I have owned for 35 years..

funny. I sold one of the nicest GN's in the country for this Mustang. Granted, its not nearly as fast or gets nearly the looks and admiring stares or car show tropheys but I am much more excited to get it out for a drive then I was with the GN.

I only had the basic low dollar mods that all turbo Buick owners know and ran consistant mid 12's. I plan on having my GT running similar times in the future but now I am satisfied with where I am at with it.
