BFGoodrich Tires to be used on 05 Roush Mustang
One Trick Pony
For Jack Roush, it's always been about the Mustang. Ford's pony car represents the true, pure American hot rod to Roush. He's been selling specially modified Roush versions for more than a decade. The Roush Mustang he's designing for 2005 lives up to his ideals, which are to create a car that affords tremendous speed with superb handling, ride comfort and racetrack-level stopping power. Like all Roush Mustangs, this one will ride on BFGoodrich® tires. Exclusively.
"We already have one of the only American cars," says Karges, vehicle marketing manager for Roush Performance Products, speaking of the 2004 Roush Mustang Stage III, "that pulls a very rare full G on the skidpad because the perfectly balanced — and finely tuned suspension takes full advantage of possibly the stickiest tires on the road — the BFGoodrich g-Force T/A®KD (tire)."
The 2005 Roush Mustang seeks to deliver as much performance as the 2004 car and more. That means specially tuned engines, suspensions and brakes — something that is tremendously important to Jack Roush.
"One of the things Jack specified was that this has to be an outstanding performance car," says Roush executive Terry Karges, "which means it must have great brakes. That means it has to be able to make high-speed stops and starts all day without ever fading."
The stopping power for the 2005 Roush Mustang will come from four-piston calipers squeezing 14-inch discs in front, two-piston calipers with 13-inch rear discs. Roush Mustangs, Karges says, are performance tested in the rigorous European style. "That means 10 high-speed stops in a row, rather than the American brake test style, which usually involves just one high-speed stop."
Some of the choices still to be made in the mechanical layout of the 2005 Roush Mustang make further technical description difficult. But Karges says the visual drama of the car, hinted at in the accompanying illustrations, has already been established. "It will have a variation on our signature side exhaust, as well as a Roush front air dam."
The car will also feature Roush wheels, Karges says, shod with — what else? — BFGoodrich® tires.
"We always use BFGoodrich tires on Roush performance cars," Karges says. "We use the KD because it's the stickiest tire on the road, and also the best value for the money in a tire."
