Does anyone know if using synthetic oils gives you any extra power? I have heard this claim and have always wondered if it is true.

I seem to remember reading some articles that indicate that there is minimal gain in switching to synthetic, +1-5hp/tq numbers. I want to say one of the Mustang Magazines has performed this test, as well as other publications. I'm sure there are persons on here that have better working knowledge of the subject.

It does but nothing significant.....

When I had my Probe GT it was said that Mobil 1 would gain you 2-3hp.

Does a 1 or 3 hp gain matter? No. That's like saying maybe if I lost 1 pound, I'd be a thousandth of a second faster in the 1/4 mi. I'd be more happy that mobil 1 is a great oil for the engine more than anytihng else.

If I can get 1 to 3 HP back it could make up for the power loss with my SLP Loudmouths.

That test was BS for no mufflers. The test conditions were not consistant.

(rant) you can't convince me that decreasing back pressure will decrease horsepower.

(not talking to you specifically, just people in general)

A magazine used it all around, engine, tranny, rearend, got less than 10 hp. They said it was probably not worth it. I was looking for camshafts at Crane Cams or Comp Cams, one of them recommended not using synthetic oil, it caused excessive cam where. They said use it if the manufacturer recommended it. I remember someone, I think it was Detroit Locker, saying use a non-synthetic oil for the readend. That might have been for break-in. I was planning on using synthetic oil all around until I saw this. What do you guys/gals think?
