message center

the past couple of times i have driven my car the message center say CHECK FUEL CAP. I have, many time, making sure that is on straight and properly tightened. [img]style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/banghead.gif[/img] Has anyone else had this happen and what did you do about it? new cap? [img]style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/dunno.gif[/img] yes i did a search.

You may have a defective vent in the fuel filler cap, a defective outer sealing ring on the cap or a small vacumn leak elsewhere in the evap system. I would think your problem is covered under warranty still.
I had a Dodge Dakota that would produce evap codes and the cap vent was defective. The spring in behind the vent had rusted allowing rust fragments to wedge the vent open slightly which would produce the code. You might also check the outer sealing ring for nicks or cuts that might allow vacumn by. I haven't had any problem with my mustang though.
