QUOTE(adrenalin @ June 2, 2005, 8:41 PM)
I just love the Red 68 Shelby. He was the original purchaser. He has the original bill of sale in his car. Paid $2,125.00 for the car. Lucky bugger.

Here's a nice 1968 Shelby GT350 for sale for only $45,000, #742
http://www.lasaac.org/Shelby%20Pics.htm

And a 1968 SHELBY GT 500 KR for only $65,000, plus it only has 45k miles on it. It is the dark green one.

I wish that shelby was mine. It is the GT500 but not the KR. He said it was 325HP from the day he bought it. He drives it every weekend since the day he bought it and it is in mint condition. He sure does baby it. I have seen it in car shows ever since I got my license so I was honoured to be able to park next to it.

Man, they made cars back then. Today's cars a really just a joke. I would love to have a cobra like that. What a shame that our cars cant be half as nice as those. Look at all that chrome. I just cant get over it.

John thanks so much for posting the pics. Everytime I drive my 05 and enjoy the looks I cant help thinking about the classics , espesually the 68s and my favorite 68 GT, and how the 05 compares to them. I agree with you all about the 68 Cobra, most definitley the holy grail of Mustangs, I love the looks but I know I can never afford one.

Acutally your blue 05 is next to my favrite, 68 Gt. Now theres the car I have dreamed of becasue my brother had one when when I was a kid and I can still hope to own one some day.

looking at all three togehter, I so appreciate now what a great job Ford did with our body. The 05 has a personality of their own , but with just the right look in the front headlights and other cues to remind me of my favorite 68. I actually like the fender flares we have better than flat fenders on the 68s which gives our 05s a more aggresive look up front.

One question I have for you John or anyone else, about overall size and proportion. IS our 05 bigger, longer, or close in length to the 68s? Its always looks to me like the 68s are longer than our 05s I guess becasue they seam to have a longer hood and front end. What do you all think?

Man to own all three of those cars, Id feel like I died and was in Mustang heaven!!!

well here is a side shot. Not a good one mind you. I find that the new model is wider. As for length they are all pretty close. Now the height is pretty interesting. If you look at my 05, it has a higher overall height than the 68 fastback and is about the same height as the Shelby. Funny thing is, I have lowered the 05 by 1 1/4". So hopefully I can get some better shots that include an 05 that has not been modified. There is another cruise night tomorrow night so I hope that all the stangs I want pics of are there. Then again they are calling for rain :bang:

That's a cool story, John. Your pix are choice. I like the family resemblance between the older ponies and yours. However, yours looks a lot bigger and beefier than the others. Like it's pumped up on steroids! (But in a good way) Funny how slender the older cars look. They're awesome, but the '05 seems like a bully sitting beside them.

I think it's great when old school Mustang owners welcome a new 'Stang into the fold. It's very promising because it negates any "us vs. them" feelings some may initially have. The latest iteration 'Stang is a nod to the past, so it's only natural that they feel somewhat honored by your presence at these gatherings!

I was very surprised by the warm welcome I received. I thought "These guys won't like my car" but they loved it. They owner of the Shelby couldn't take enough pictures. There was 1 person that didn't like my car and he made sure we all knew. I didn't know why he was being such a jerk until I saw him again the other day, driving around in a 99 Mustang GT. Don't know exactly what his problem was but my guess is jealousy. I'll make sure I ask him next time about his car

Glad you had a great time John the guy that has that shelby sure took good care of it for all these years and for our Mustangs John everyone that has seen mine just loves the new look .When I go to a gas station to fill it up I think there was only 2 times so far that someone "didn't" come over to me to talk about the car.

As a matter of fact I think I might even have sold a few Lime green mustangs after seeing mine ...I know at my dealer that has been the "Most " sold color for this year so far.

Sounds like a good idea. It's always in your best interests to take the high road when dealing with a rude person. I would make a point of showing interest in his car, and admit the '05 isn't for everyone, but that you like it. It might smooth out things and maybe he'll walk away with a little more respect for you and your car. I think you hit it right on the head. It sounds like simple jealousy. Happy trails!

BTW, those wheels kick butt! I like the tire/rim combo a lot. I'm going to wait until my stock tires wear out until I trade up for wider treads.
