maybe im just a bit picky - factory prop rod scratching hood

i didn't like how the factory prop rod would scratch the crap out of the hood near the prop rod hole. ive had the car for about a month and its already scratched to the point it has annoyed me.

so, until i get the struts to hold the hood up - heres a quick fix that should work for everyone. i took about 1" of velcro, and attached it where the prop rod would rest. (see attached pic). ideally i would have had some white velcro to match the hood, but this doesnt stand out too darn much with the prop rod in place.

plus, when i do get the struts to hold it up - it wont be much to clean it up.

One of the first things I did to my prop rod was to coat the business end with PlastiDip. Worked like a charm! Then I removed it in favor of struts.

if i had that i would do it - i was also considering some heat shrink, but i couldnt find my stash of it (at least one that was big enough)

Just throw away the prop rod and buy some MRT hood struts. I held off on this mod for a long time and now I don't know why? Love them!

+1 I couldn't agree more. I don't know why Ford would put them on the trunk lid, but then cheap out and not put them on the hood. I guess they think more people are in and out of the trunk more than they are under the hood...I guess they don't know the car hobby too well Love my MRT hood struts as well, unlike the prop rod, they are never in the way, and can't get knocked out and have the hood fall on someone at a car show.

Absolutely agree. It took me a while to put the struts in also, but now I can't think of any other way to go. Got mine from Redline Tuning, but either kit will work fine. Get some

he said, "naw man, it gives it that retro feel."

It's not retro, it's just cheap on Ford's part.

+1 on the struts Love em. Saved my hind end at the National show in Mustang where the wind was gusting to around 30 mph. Many people had to close their hoods in fear of it flying off the prop rod, but not me the struts held up like a champ and allowed me to not worry about the wind!

I was at the same show in Mustang. I've got struts on mine as well. But the wind was blowing from behind where I was parked and kept blowing my hood shut, albeit slowly, not slamming it shut. I was wishing I still had my prop rod to keep it open...

I have a big piece of black hard rubber that I stick it the prop rod hole.
It holds the rod in tight so that it can't move even in the wind at a show.
No one has ever noticed because it looks like it belongs there.
