Just found this thread, I know AFBLUE you've been anxiously awaiting my guess.
Scientific approach:
May 2006 sales: 15,559
2007 sales so far are -19% YTD and -21% in April 07.
So base estimate is 15,559 - 20% = 12,447
Adjust +1,500 for the extra selling days in May, but also have to adjust -500 for the bad weather & flooding in the Mid-West.
Final # is: 13,333

I'm surprised at how popular this thread has become.

Jonathan, you're asking the wrong question. The question isn't "who buys a Mustang and thinks about gas prices?"
The question is, "who thinks about gas prices and then decides not buy a new Mustang?"
When folks are spending more money for gasoline, they have less money for other things like new car payments, insurance premiums, and car registration.
Also, your implication that people who buy a Mustang don't think about gas prices is wrong. To answer your question, "who buys a Mustang and thinks about gas prices?": I do. I think about gas prices. And so do other Mustang owners. There's a thread running right now on MSF about the price of gas.
There may be some Mustang owners who don't care about gas prices. Maybe you don't? But I think many of us do.
Thank you for your comment.
BTW I hope Ford sells lots of Mustangs and is a successful car company. I tell people all the time about how much we love our Mustang. I hope my guess of the number of Mustangs sold is way too low. I'd like to see Ford sell twice as many Mustangs as I guessed. I want Ford to continue making Mustangs. And I want Ford to be successful so they don't have to lay off any of their employees. Unfortunately, the guy who got us our X-Plan PIN was scheduled to be laid off. That's a shame. I hate to see a guy lose his job.
