In the market for 2007 GT - Need advice

I'm looking to buy a new 2007 Mustang GT but I have a few concerns:

1). What is planned for the 2008 MY? I don't want to shell out $26k only to find that the next MY gets a 400 hp 5.8L OHV V8...

2). I heard rumors that the 2005-2006 GTs have a huge stack of TSBs and recalls (NHTSA site showed nothing). One such problem is the rear axles or ring and pinion gears?

What is your no-BS assessment? Are there a lot of build problems with the 2005-2007 GTs?

If I am going to buy a problematic Ford, I will go with a cheaper Focus ST. I just need a 5-speed manual daily driver, but one that is a new factory ordered Ford.

Thanks in advance!!

I have an 07 and love it! Not one complaint. If you do your research, as you should, you'll find out that the 05-07 Mustangs have far more positive feedback than negative. I have not read one media source that has given the Mustang a poor rating. It has been a best buy product for three straight years. Sure, there were some minor issues in the early 05s & 06s that obviously has been "ironed" out. I don't think that you'll find a better, sporter, faster, more powerful, quality vehicle out there for the $$$. If you do, let me know... As far as waiting for an 08,09,10 etc... There will always be some improvement over any previously year model. If you maintain that philosophy, you'll never buy a new Stang. Life is too short; live for today and buy it!

I second what Steeltown says. He seems pretty smart other than being a Steeler fan.

Well you dont have to worry about Ford putting a 5.8 in the GT at all.

I'm thinking:
2007 GT Deluxe Coupe
Vista Blue / Dark Charcoal Cloth
TR-3650
3.55 RAR
Shaker 500
Perimeter Alarm System

I'm not sure which other options I need to get. the Shaker 1000 looks great but I don't need amps or subwoofers.

the shaker 500 rocks pretty well. The sub does take up alot of trunk room

The Shaker 1000 is a waste of money, way too overpriced. I'd add the side airbags with the hope that I never need them. I like the IUP, for the additional gauges, and the optional light or dark dash, because it comes along, I'll take the message center, but I am not a fan of "my color".

Are the DIO all-weather floor mats ($57) worth it? Do they get in the way of the clutch pedal? Or should I get floor mats from Wal-Mart?

You can't get mycolor anymore btw.

If you can bear it, I'd wait for the Bullitt in the 2008 MY if thats yer cup of tea. I love my GT though.

Interesting, I had thought the issues with Delphi had suspended the availability of mycolor options.

I've just sped past the 1000 mile marker in my GT and I know I haven't had it long, but I can say it's the best car I've ever owned.

Appearance aside, everything about the build quality of the car is not what I expected from a Ford. Fit and finish and overall build quality is superb. Perhaps the plastics seem cheap to some and there could be a blight because of some short-comings (carpet is a little short up by the pedals, no rear floor mats, Passenger seat is manual unless you upgrade) but I an not inclined to think that way. So far, knock on wood, I've not had the rear-axle whine I've seen mentioned or any of the other problems that are in the TSBs. There was a link here about the NHTSB gave the '06 5-star ratings for safety...

If it were me, I would cast aside any thoughts on a focus or similar car. Buy the Mustang and get the perma-grin. You'll be happy you did.

You get a couple of extra gauges with the IUP. You get fuel, temp, ammeter and oil. I believe you only get the first two without the IUP. Of course you get the speedo and tach also either way.

You also get the message center with the IUP. It computes stuff like miles to empty, miles per gallon, average speed. Fun toy for info junkies like me.

Are those dummy ammeter and oil gauges?

Has anyone bought/ordered the $57 all-weather floor mats? They are supposed to be for the front and rear, and are designed to fit the Mustang.

I got the IUP and PTP. I'd recommend both to jazz up the interior. Looks great.

I saw the pics of the interior packages and don't like them too much. I'm not a fan of chrome/satin aluminum/shiny metal surfaces.

metroplex,

1) I believe the horsepower for the '08 GTs will be bumped up to 325.

2) As far as the IUP package with the Satin Aluminum panel, etc., ... at first I didn't think I would want it...but after checking out how all the high end Stangs (Saleen, Roush, etc.) were definitely going with some kind of upgrade on the dashboards and gauges I decided to go with it. Also, just about every premium GT on the road has the IUP. Now, when I see a Stang without the IUP it looks "naked" to me and somewhat plain. You should reconsider getting the IUP if you opt for an '08 (I think there is a subdued panel available now...a charcoal color instead of the brighter aluminum)...I was also worried that the satin panel might be distracting while driving...that's not the case at all.

Also, what other performance cars have you had in the past? My GT is a daily driver and I enjoy the heck out of it...as you can see in my "sig" I have a Vette for the weekends. I believe that the GT will be plenty reliable and working on it (i.e. changing oil, etc.) is a breeze.
