How much gas was left after 20 minutes doing 140mph?

It would also be interesting to know what mpg he got for those 20 minutes!

my car topped out at about 146-148 then the computer speed limiter started to kick in (car was built in late march) and I have no hood shake at all but my hood needs to be slamed to close

mine did also shut down in that range...had it right under 145 for a while and as soon as i started to go down a slight hill and it got a little more speed it shut down.
And just in case anyone in so cal may be going to arizona...the area after el centro going into yuma was a great proving ground.

Wardog 07 Tom, I'm sure it must so, but I just wanted to check with you. Does your Insurance cover you at those high speeds? I hear there are less accidents on the autobon, do to the fact that the slower traffic must yield and keep to slow speed lane. Is that the right lane in Germany? Gees, I just seen that on TV not long ago.
Thanks

It's true, there are less accidents on the autobahns. BUT . . . when they have one, there is almost certain death involved and usually get into double digits of how many cars are involved.

The Germans are real good at keeping with protocol, by staying in the right lane except when passing.

Hi all!

Got out on Autobahn 7 today, heading South.

Kicked it up to 140 mph and held it for 20 min.

Can't complain, everything felt "Good-n-Tight".

Only issue I can point out, is that the hood was vibrating big time (left to right). Wasn't felt in the car, it just looked bad and scary that it might fly off.

It's great to be in Germany with a car like this. Had more fun "at speed" than when I'm hauling "A" in my sons BMW.

So . . . trust me, if you hit 140 mph in the US, even for 30 seconds, you're not missing out on anything with the other 19 1/2 mins.

Tom

Tom,
I have a Torch red 2005 Convertible GT w/auto down in Stuttgart, picked up from Bremerhaven last Tuesday, still in break-in period so 95-100mph is fastest so far. Where are you?

BTW, when I picked up my car there was a 5spd Torch Red GT convertible going to be delivered to K-town. There is a blue, and a black pair of GT coupes down here in Stuttgart so far.

Mike,

We'll have to hook-up some time and go cruisin to one of these events together.

I'm in Kitzingen. A few miles from the intersection of Autobahn's 3 & 7.

Darn, that sounds like a lot of fun bringing the pony up to full gallop!

At the risk of sounding like a mother hen, just remember to check your tire wear and pressure before heading out.

Anyone ever thought that adjusting the hood so the rear end is raised up off the cowl might help exhuast the air pressure underneath and keep the hood on the car? It's an old hot rodders trick... free cowl induction!

I've also got up to 140... remarkably smooth at that speed. I also noticed the hood vibration, which starts at about 110 on my car. The hood on the mustang is incredibly loose... it seems to only have one attachment on the front in the center, and the hood is flexible enough that you can easily lift up the front corner about an inch with your finger. I presume the vibration problem is just that the front corners are trying to fly and there's just nothing holding them down.

Tried it in the rain too, the wipers are worthless after 100. They lift off the glass.
I guess I'll have to get those little "wing-thing-spoiler-dodads" to push them against the glass.

I was test driving a GT between Heidelberg and Karsruhle on A5 yesterday...I regestered 12.5/mpg for the 2 hr stunt driving back and forth. My buddy and I took some great video of what it looks and sounds like to cruise at 140+. I was very inpressed how well it held together, much better than my '03. The windshield wipers are truely worthless at anything over 100mph, but then again you probably shouldn't achieving those kind of speeds when its raining! They couldn't believe the mustang only costs $28,000 They spend that on VW's.

try using Rain-X on the glass.... the water should blow right off at that speed. I know it does at even 40 on my truck. .... I haven't actually used the Rain-X that you wipe on.... I just have their brand of washer fluid, and I definitly notice a difference with the water running off. It's worth a shot I suppose.

It's not as bad as you might think. The roads here are far better and it hadn't been raining long enough to start puddles yet.

I have an interesting observation that I thought I would share.

I have a beater 91 Escort that I drive to the market or to work (where ever I dont want to take the stang for fear of door dings).

When my girlfriend is in the car with me she like to tell me when I am going too fast.

In the Escort she starts to squirm at around 70 mph

In her 2001 Toyota Camary she will tell me to slow down at around 80- 85 mph.

I have taken her in the Stang up to 120 mph with nair a peep. When I told her about that she now has the habit when she sees the lines in the road moving at a higher than normal rate to lean over to peer at the speedo, wherin she tells me to slow down :nono:

It's funny just how smooth the Stangs are at speed.
