Thumbs up

Ok,

I've read through the threads of locking gas caps and I'm still confused. Can anyone tell me where I can get one online. What the part and supplier number is? I've read about the motorcraft one, and I can't find it on their web site, nor can I find the Stant one. I know I can ask Kevin, but I think its pretty rediculous that this is this difficult. Does no one want money for these items? Why isn't ford making this easy to find? I just want a web site I can order from. I can't even find this thing on ebay!

Try this. http://www.rockauto.com/ Click on part search and look for part # 10510 (It's a Stant Locking Cap). Do not search under Mustang, it won't show up.

$18.56 total. Ordered this weekend and it's on it's way. Some guys in the forums have it and said it works.

The part number I wrote down when I ordered mine from 05StangKC (Kevin) is Ford#4L3Z-9K163-AA and I think I ordered it last Feb or March. It works great. Easy on and easy off with no hassles from the key being in it when you're trying to get the cap off. I think Boomer posted at one time that it also fits the F-150.

I also bought mine from 05StangKC and it is perfect. No problems with check engine lights or anything.

Clear Answer! YES, part # 10510 (Stants 04 Ford F-150 cap) DOES FIT. I ordered mine from the above URL last week. Arrived yesterday and it's on since last night. Even has a groove for the laynard to fit into.
SWEET

Just ordered Stant 10510 from http://www.rockauto.com/
Stant's website www.stant.com states that it'll fit 2005 Mustang (I checked V6). Apparently Stant invented locking gas cap back in 1932 during great depression, when people started stealing gas from other cars. Main thing is that it was under $20 with 2 business day delivery option. Not bad, rockauto!

I installed the Stant cap last night. No issues so far. I ran the on board diagnostics that came with IUP and it says that "Gas Cap is OK". One thing to note is that the new cap can be attached to the existing plastic ring that keeps the cap tied to the fuel cover door. Just insert a flat head scredriver between the rims that hold the plastic ring and twist, prying the rims apart. Take the old cap off. Do the same with the new cap (pry rims apart), insert the ring between them and snap them closed. Let me know if these instructions are unclear.

Forgot to mention one important thing: Stant cap is "Made in the U.S.A". It is nicely stamped on the box that it came in.

I picked up a locking cap, Stant Part 11510 (interchangeable with 10510). I noticed that is is not exactly the same as the stock cap that has some sort of spring loaded valve in the center of the inside of the cap. What is that extra valve for and will it have a negative effect (e.g., create negative pressure) if the Stant replacement doesn't have it? Any thoughts?
I saw another post a few pages back in this forum that showed the Motorcraft locking cap (FC-993) and it had the center piece valve like the stock cap.
Thanks

I don't know this for a fact, but it might have something to do with
"PRE-VENT® fuel cap". From Stant's site: "Pre-Vent represents the latest in fuel cap technology and is designed to permit the controlled release of fuel tank pressure from volatile fuels. ... Pre-Vent caps are also available in locking gas cap versions. The Pre-Vent locking gas cap gradually depressurizes the fuel system when the key is inserted into the lock cylinder." Best bet would be to call Stant to ask them.

Btw, here is what Stant's online catalog has for both V6 and V8 in Fuel caps department:
Regular Fuel Cap 10840
Regular Locking Fuel Cap 10510
Fuel Cap/System Tester Adapter 12422 (Tan W/White Ring)

So, question is, how do you know that 11510 is interchangeable with 10510?
Also, so far I stand by Stant cap as an excellent product.

Oh, then you should be OK. If you have IUP run a self check. It'll tell you if gas cap is ok. Try it, but make sure to have the old cap in the trunk, just in case.

TOO expensive and HAS to be painted to match your car. Can't have this chunk of aluminum unpainted - we drive Mustangs, not civics or eclipses.
