I'm a Systems Engineer. Though my scholastic strength lies in the sciences, my aptitude tests in high school told a different story.

Upon taking the SAT, I received a 770 on the Math...and an 800 on the Verbal portion. I was as surprised as everyone else.

Well, driving a Jetta (2.0L producing 115 hp) I can say that having alot of torque at low RPMs really makes a car fun to drive (max torque avail. at about 3500 rpm). My brothers Mercury (which has a Mazda 1.8L) produces about 125hp and also is torque-y (its a perfectly crombulent word). However, nothing compares to the sound of an American V8 and the...

Oh wait, I have no idea why American cars produce big power w/ big liters, while Euro cars produce big power w/ little liters.

Hmm, an Audi/VW 3.2L produces 240hp while the 4.6L Stang 05 will have 300hp, is that a big diff

I also thought that European cars didn't have as much emission control on there cars. If you look at BMW's in car magazines they'll have the European horse power rating and then the U.S. horse power rating.

I've seen almost a 30 horse power difference in some models.

Only about 10 hp/liter. Which one do you think will put a bigger smile on your face and for a whole lot less money. Hint: it ain't the Audi.

BTW, the Z06 with it's 5.7 liter mill and 405 hp rings up 71 hp/liter. The 1994 Cobra with its supercharger brings home just under 90 hp/liter. Turbo Carreras make more at about 111, but Lord! The price. The Viper with its 8.3 liter V10 puts out 500hp, and that's only 60 hp/liter. Hmmm.

There's an old American aphorisim that there ain't no replacement for displacement. That's what Ford used to kill Ferrarai at Le Mans in the 60's. Anybody here besides me old enough to remember that?

OK, Steve. Decifer crombulent for us.

If we can keep this thread on topic, that is. But I think that was a partial response to the original question.

And yep, I guess you're a self admitted stupid American.

and im not talking just preformance wise bc i kno American cars arent always the best performers. i just meant that they don't, at least for me, feel as good. its not something i can explain easily. its just...weird...American cars have always appealed to me more, and most likely always will

oh ya and it takes one to know one

Edit: BTW, pretty good guess on my age
I can appreciate that sentiment. I've been driving since 1964 and came back to a Mustang.

Perhaps when you have a few more years of driving under your seat belt you'll appreciate others cars besides American ones. There really are some very good automobiles out there. If in the end you still prefer American, that's fine. To each his own. Just don't be so judgemental, especially with so little experience.

Maybe you could do a little spell check on your next post. Not to flame you, but it doesn't help the weight of your comments at all when they're fraught with typos and grammatical errors. We all make typos from time to time. Can you find the one I left in? [/b][/quote]
sorry if i sounded offensive. oh and i forgot to mention, there is one thing on my dad's BMW 323 that i do like: that wierd tranny that lets u switch between auto and manual. im not sure what its called tho.

Crombulent isn't a word. And you spelled decipher wrong. And now, since I don't have anything to add,

Amazing. Everywhere I go on the internet their are forighners with superiority complexes talking trash about Americans.
I didn't see any trash talking here, just a legitimate question from a guy in Belgium who admittedly loves American muscle cars. What's your problem with that? Could it be that you can't spell, or are you just drunk?

your ignorance is showing.

2) gas is, unfortunately, very cheap in the united states. the US consume more oil in a day than russia, saudi-arabia and mexico produce together (or approx. 25% of the world's oil usage). so 5% of the people in the world consume 25% of the oil. the result is pollution of the environment. yeah.

Id say this qualifies for trash talking. I may not be the worlds best speller, but I can tell when America is being bashed, which you ,who would be the perfect speller, and educated beyond your intelligence, apperently wouldnt realize if you were hit upside your head with it.

Uh, snakeeyes, where did you see any bashing of America in this thread? It's true that we consume a lot of oil. Is that bashing us? Nope, just a fact. And yes, I overstepped the line in my first reply to you. That was trash talking.

I apologize.

Other than me, I don't think anyone's gotten out of line here.

Steve, "decifer" was just for you. I wanted to see if you were awake.

I see hdwrench is here.

Harleys are good example of a low hp but high torque/liter motor with a very high fun quotient.

Maybe what we've all forgotten to mention so far is the sound that a good old V8 or Harley makes. You don't get that in most imports. It's not that they don't sound good, just different.

You all know what I mean. Some of you may remember the very old days when guys would drive 56 Chevvies, Mustangs, or Corvettes to the local hang out and you'd hear their cams loping along at an uneven idle until they revved it. Remember "American Graffiti"?

Exactly. There is no way everybody here will agree on anything unless it's that the Mustang is a great car. This thread is itching to be locked.

BTW Don't mess with the name, even if it's meant as a word. "decifer" pssh!

Hey guys,

thanks for the nice responses.

Just for the sake of it, I will repeat myself: I absolutely love US pony & muscle. In fact I can honestly say that I hate about 95 % of European car design. Even a car like a Mercedes or a BMW doesn't appeal to me. I don't even like the cliché Jaguar look neither, you know, the green exterior and beige interior and the golf clubs in the trunk . I didn't mean to start an international car war here.

I'm going to try to get a Mustang GT but it 'll probably be a 06. Since gas still isn't free, I was only wondering why the US ones have so much litres. Got some nice answers out of this. I know the gas costs will be big here in EU, but hey, ponylove concurs all huh.

ciao

it used to be like this... with the European Union's new emission laws, things have become equal (afaik, the current EU4 emission standard is a bit tighter than california emissions stuff)
