The question is...
Do you get the last body style before it changes(04) or get the first(05)? I am VERY in love with an 04 gt. I just need re-assurance I will not be shooting myself in the foot if I don't wait.

Probably get a helluva deal on a '04 the closer it gets to '05 release time. And if you wait that long, why get an '04 GT? Probably could get a steal a Mach 1 or better.

Dude I seriously think that anyone who buys the 04 will hate themselves once they see the 05...The car is beautiful, and when you realize you could of had one, you'll wanna kill yourself...

Also think of it this way...THe 05, is like getting an 04 Mach 1, the power output i identical, so the only way you are saving money is if you get the 04 GT, which is a much lesser car than the 05.

I've seen the 05 in person, and I still personally like the Mach 1 better looks wise.

Also, the power output is NOT identicle by any means. And it sure as heck ain't got that nifty little shaker scoop. He should get what he likes. If he likes the "old" body style as much as he says, then he won't have a problem or want to kill himself.

With that said a few other points:

1. I would get the Mach 1, instead of the GT. I wouldn't have been happy with a GT (instead of an 05), but that's just me. The

2. The dealers around that I shopped at that had plenty of Mach 1's back in December have none, one, or very few. Depending on where you are, they may not be availbale come the summer. Remember, production has ceased.

3. The rebate has already dropped to $2500K, and may be dropped even further as Ford tries to control the inventory and make them last through the 05 launch in the fall. (Article posted here and at BON a few weeks back).

Only thing I would personally reccomend is a Mach, the other stangs are just for super price point shoppers right now.

I do SO want that Orange GT. I only got it down to 22k right now though, so I am sitting and waiting on a "deeper" discount.

I have yet to see a mach 1 around these parts. We have lots of Roush Mustangs and Saleens and SVTs, none are my thing. Don't think for a second I wouldn't take one but a- $$$$$ and B- Flash. I would have to mess someone up if it got stolen, I want to go more for the stealth than flash. (I would give my left arm for a v8 like she has under the hood though). Living down here in Rural Lower Alabama, I could tear it up. SO, I have to take what I can get.

You already lost 500 of that deal, plus dealer cash they might of been using for the discount 6 days ago.

We don't know anything about what the new GT puts out. Its rated at 300hp and 320lb-ft vs. 310hp and 320lb-ft for the Mach 1. The GT is the same weight and has a much broader torque curve. I wouldn't bet the family farm the Mach is more powerful. It'll be close/identical.

We'll have to wait to see Dyno/track results.

This whole Mach Vs 05GT debate is nuts..considering both cars are underated and the 05 isn't out yet.

Mach 1 or Cobra would be my choise for an '04 if performance was the main issue. If design was a factor, the '05 would probably get the nod.

Buy a supercharger for your new 05 Gt , just as fast as cobra and probably still cheaper and would be sort of a sleeper.

I have been waiting for a Mustang for a while, I would buy a new Mach1 if it wasnt' for the fact that the '05 is so much better

-equal acceleration (approximately)
-better interior
-more modern chassis
-better build quality
-mandrel-bent exhaust (rumour)

Even if the cost is about the same, the '05 seems to be the more logical choice considering all of the advancements in the car.

add to that:

- styling - fastback, no fake scoops
- improved handling - better weight balance, longer wheelbase, vastly improved live axle setup
- more suited for 18's (larger overall wheel diameter)
- more interior room
- small improvements - trunk lid, only two catalitic converters etc...
- Shaker 500 - MP3 capable
- Short(er) shifter stock

etc....
