Lack of respect from 90's mustang owners?
it isn't jealousy, the 04-older guys just don't like your cars or the fact that alot of you (not all) IE-Nick85 look at the older mustangs as not worthy or ugly or a ton slower when in reality the 05 isn't all that much better a car. and another thing, this new car attracted alot of outsiders that really don't understand cars or the car guy habits and the last gen guys treat them like the classic guys treat the teenagers......like they're useless....
I've got an '05 and except for the guys in my local club I have not gotten any acknowledgement from any other '05+ owners I've seen driving. I even pulled up next to a guy on the highway and just wanted to give him a nod as a fellow Mustang owner but he must have thought I wanted to race because he wouldn't even look over at me! I just went on down the road. I try to acknowledge all Mustangs but most people don't pay any attention. I also always give all nice older muscle cars a thumbs up. As a motorcycle rider (I ride a '98 Triumph) I wave at all bikes I see and most of them wave back. Except a few ultra-attitude Harley and sport bike guys. Ironically more Harley guys wave back than sport bike guys and my bike isn't even close to being mistaken for a Harley.

Does not bother me.If they wave I'll wave back ,no big deal.I like the last gen Stangs. But everytime I see a Cobra I just melt.......It was the new S197 body style that made my mind up.
Oooooooooooh I still think of the Cobra though.

yeah...its hit or miss...I'll admit that I'm guilty of not paying attention when someone waves...and by the time I realize they did, they've already passed....I feel bad, but they probably think I'm a d***
Do people really get worked up over whether someone waves to them? I wave or acknowledge some 04 and earlier but usually only when it's obvious that they're into their cars. I always wave regardless of the year if they wave first. I wave at every 05 and later that I see. I used to get a wave back 50-60% of the time. Now, maybe 10%. Early adopters were not just car nuts but generally Mustang nuts so they were generally just as excited to see you. Now it's just a popular car.
But honestly, it doesn't matter if they waveor not. I certainly don't get offended or my feelings hurt. Half the time I figure they just weren't paying attention, like 90% of the other drivers on the road. I'll keep waving as long as I have the car though simply because I enjoy it.

I wave at most Mustang GT drivers of any year as well as SE models. I tend to find V6 drivers ,for the most part, are people who aren't really into Stangs and just need a car to drive. However, there are some V6's now and then that look nice and I'll wave to. For the most part I'll get waves from other 05+ owners and GT/SE owners of previous years.
i wave at all GT's from any year or atleast give them a nod or thumbs up. i usually try to do the same for the nice V6's i see but i rarely even get looked at, like im not even there. its alll good though.
i had a guy with an 04 GT come up to me at the gas station and told me he just got into an accident in the gas station. i couldnt see the car but the cops scared me at first haha. he told me it was a really nice car and asked me about the car. i told him although it was hurt, its just a better reason to buy an 05 =)

Since first reading this thread, I decided to start waving at any Mustang I see driving around to gauge reactions. So far, I've not had anyone wave back. Now, part of that may be due to the fact that I'm either in a tired, old '96 Saturn or my wife's Subaru Forester, but no one seems to wave. Maybe my luck will change after I get a Mustang.
I think most of you have hit the major reasons - some people just see a Mustang as a car, some people aren't too friendly or are perhaps a tad paranoid about strangers and some simply may not notice the gesture.

No offense to anyone here, but why do you think anyone owes you respect? I love mustangs, but when it comes down to it they are a very small piece of the pie. Respect is never given, it is always earned and driving a specific car only earns you respect at the track. On the road I wave or nod to anyone who does the same to me, but I do not expect anyone to nod at me, no matter what they drive.
Maybe a better word is courtesy. If you wave or nod at someone and they do not do so back then perhaps they are just not a courtious driver.
Anyway come to indiana and wave to me when I'm driving my clunker 98 V6 instead of my 05 and I'll wave to you!

It's not so much respect as it is an acknowledgment of a mutual love for the Mustang. I also am a biker, and that's what the biker "wave" is all about - a mutual passion for the same hobby.

I see you live Hatboro PA. That's not too far from me, I live in NE Philly right near the NE Airport. Do you go to many cars shows? I've been to a number of them in the area. I am also a member of the Far NE cruisers car club. We usually put on a show the 4th Sunday of every month at the Burger King Parking lot on Street road in Bensalem. Our first show this year we had 106 cars on display. I am always looking to meet fellow Mustang people for good conversations and cruising around. You can't miss me I don't know of any other Yellow 2006 GT's with a CDC ducktail and Rally strips in the area, so if you see me don't hazitate to give me a wave, I'll wave back.
I think it would be really cool if we could get a bunch of Mustangs to go on a cruise or something but I don't know the best way to start it.

Now about this topic. I try to waived to all the new Mustang owners, as I have seen alot of previous-gen Mustang owners have that jealous attitude towards me and my car. I get a waive back from GT owners about 50% of the time, while the V6 owners really don't respond. Maybe the ones in my area who drive V6's aren't as much car people as others. I don't know. I will however say "nice car" to anyone that has a Mustang.

I nodded to a older gent in a very nice 69 Camaro as I went by him the other day, no response, but I do have tinted windows... likely he didnt notice the nod.
The only respect that matters to me on the road is people using their signals, etc. People who arent a hazard to others.

It all depends on who's driving, and you really cant catagorize car drivers because it tends to be pretty random most of the time

I didn't make the July 2 show my family and I went up to Niagara Falls for the holiday. I heard from some of the members it was good. How did the parking go, because the last one we were running out of parking spots?
7-15 OUR SHOW at Faulkner Street Rd & Old Lincoln HIghway 9am-3pm.
I probably will not make the July 15th show either. I need to get my shed up in the back yard so I can clear my garage out so I can park the Mustang in it. Someone stole my wife's center caps on her Olds, and someone keyed my rear bumper, not too bad, but still there. So I am in earnest to get the garage in order.
I went on the last leg of the 2006 Hot Rod Power Tour on June 9th, and also the Rolling Cruise 2006 at Palmerton PA. The Rolling Cruise had some 800 cars, it was an awesome sight. Those events were really cool and thought it would be great to do something with all Mustangs.
We should get together sometime soon and talk about a good way to set this up.
